Living With Cancer Website (click here to see the website)
Welcome to my fundraiser. Let me give you some quick background information. I’m currently battling stage 4 colon cancer. The symptoms started in July of 2021. After several doctor and ER visits complete with misdiagnosis’ I finally made it to a gastroenterologist for a colonoscopy in February 2022. Originally labeled as stage 2 it quickly progressed to stage 4 in 28 days. As of today I am partaking in my second week of radiation and chemotherapy treatments. It’s scheduled to last a total of 6 weeks with daily visits Monday through Friday.
Below are some examples of what donations will be used for.
Insurance is one of the biggest businesses in the United States and they will do whatever they can to reduce overhead. In my scenario this leads to medications not being covered or delayed due to time restraints placed on refills.
Here’s two examples.
1) When I got my colonoscopy scheduled the doctor sent me to the pharmacy to get a high powered laxative to clear my bowels before the procedure. My insurance flat out refused the claim and I paid nearly $200 for the prescribed medicine.
2) Second example is during the first week of chemo the nausea was out of control. My prescription for anti nausea meds reads use as needed. It also was set up for 2 refills. When trying to refill the prescription my insurance company said I was trying to refill too soon leading to several days of near vomiting. Luckily I’ve always had an iron stomach and will to match so I avoided puking all over the place. But the nausea was a constant reminder of how Big Insurance was more concerned for itself then the people it represents.
Notice none of these are narcotic medications or do they have any risk of addiction so I couldn’t understand why they were preventing my doctors professionally prescribed medications. When needed this collection will cover those gaps.
Got to love the effect of global conflict on oil prices. Transportation costs have increased for us all. Getting to and from appointments which I have daily and sometime multiple locations in the same day will draw from this fund.
I have a very specific diet plan set forth by the Schar Cancer Center’s dietician. The single most important factor is that the food I consume be organic. I don’t know why it costs so much more then food that has additional costs added to it to preserve it but those lobbyist know their jobs. You charity will be used in part to assist providing me with the necessary nutritional values to hopefully prevent further weight loss. I’ve dropped from 230 to currently 185.
Chemotherapy and radiation therapy may cause changes in the lining of the mouth and the salivary glands, which make saliva. This can upset the healthy balance of bacteria. These changes may lead to mouth sores, infections, and tooth decay. I’ve already got the mouth sores. Many are located on the gums. Therefore this pool would be used to address future dental issues. I’ve seen first hand what these treatments can do to one’s teeth and my current dental coverage is sub par at best.
I expect to eventually make a full recovery but this is cancer after all. In the event that it moves from stage 4 to terminal, preparations should be in place. I waited too long to pick up a life insurance policy. They won’t touch me with cancer. So in a worst case scenario this could become a nest egg for my family towards any unforeseen events. Again I’m focused on beating this.
I could go on for quite some time about how the proceeds will be used but I’m not trying to write a book here. I will be however continuing to document my experience of Living With Cancer on a website I’m developing to record the trials and tribulations I’ve overcome and continue to do so.
I've always been self sufficient. I’m not a fan of asking people for things. My symptoms led me to having to leave the work force in September. Using the restroom 40ish times a day is not a desirable trait for an employee. However, many people have requested I start one of these so they could offer some assistance to me and my family during our time if need.
I want to be clear that I have no expectations and any and everything sent our way will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to visit this page and if donating is not your forte, a share will be just as worthwhile. Thank you again and have a blessed day.
