I started this go fund me page to help raise funds to support Tom and Trudy Whiting while she was in the hospital, but sadly Trudy has passed away and now Tom needs help paying for funeral expenses. Everyone who knows Tom and Trudy know what an incredible, loving couple they were, and he is absolutely devastated with the loss of his beloved wife. Please consider donating to help alleviate the cost of her funeral, although nothing can take away the pain from losing Trudy, we can at least help take some of the burden off of Tom shoulders and try to make Trudy's Final curtain call be as special as she was. If you don't know Trudy and Tom, please read on for more about their love story. Thank you all and God bless.
Tom and Trudy Whiting are two extraordinary people who have an extraordinary love for one another. Now married 13 yrs, they first met during a community theater production of Wizard of Oz, and it was a case where the Cowardly Lion (Tom), stole the heart of a very special Munchkin (Trudy). Both Tom and Trudy are cherished, long time members of the Renaissance Players at the Renaissance Center in Dickson Tennessee and they have volunteered thousands of hours to help entertain a legion of men, women and children over the years.
On July 8, 2015 Tom was diagnosed with stage 2 colon cancer and he and Trudy fought valiantly together to beat that horrible disease. Over this last year, they have had to use all of their sick leave and vacation pay because of Tom's illness, and even with that they have struggled mightily to keep the bills paid. Yet even through this struggle, their love has remained strong and even grown during the battle with cancer, but now Trudy is very seriously ill and in the intensive care unit at the Dickson hospital. Four days ago, on Monday June 20th, Trudy went in for what was supposed to be routine lithotripsy to break up an 8 mm kidney stone, but she experienced a serous pulmonary emergency in which she coded and has been in the ICU ever since. The absolute unfairness that they would recently win a battle with cancer just to have Trudy now fighting for her very life is beyond comprehension. Of course Tom is at the hospital, by Trudy's side where he has been for the last 13 years, and God willing, will be for many, many years to come, but the unfortunate reality is that neither of them are able to work right now, and the proverbial wolf is at the door. In other words, they really could use some help to pay their bills.
I know that like me, so many of you have been blessed by your friendship with Tom and Trudy, and although I know times are tough for everyone, perhaps if we each give a little bit ourselves and then share this Go Fund Me page with as many people as possible on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc....maybe we can raise enough money to really make a difference for them, so Tom and Trudy can focus on healing instead of how to keep the electricity on.
When I think of how to describe Trudy, I have to say that even though she may be a little person, no one I have ever met in my life has a bigger heart, or a more joyful personality, indeed her smile and her laughter could raise the spirits of Scrooge himself (Trudy, Tom & I were in A Christmas Carol together so I know what I'm talking about). Tom is a wonderful, kind, hard-working man who loves to make people laugh, especially Trudy, and his generous spirit equals that of his lovely wife, so their's is truly a marriage made in heaven… or at the very least Oz.
Finally, Prayers are always needed, wanted and greatly appreciated, but if your spirit is moved to give a bit of money as well, just know that it couldn't be going to two more deserving and grateful people, and if we could meet or even exceed this goal, it would be an enormous blessing for them. I thank you all in advance, for your generosity, support and love and may God bless you all.
