To get the man back on his feet and walking again!

Mr Tom Page…
A young man, who to date has left a big impression on many of our lives for those who have been lucky enough to spend some time with him or call him a friend.
A character and niche bloke at times with some acquired tastes, but a heart of gold, selfless and fiercely loyal friend. A big presence around Knutsford Rugby Club and former player at Lymm RFC.

Like many of you, we were shocked when we heard the horrible news that Page suffered a stroke & heart attack resulting in the loss of the ability to move one side of his body. However three months later he’s made it out of Hospital and home for Christmas! An Incredible feat. Well done and thank you to Steppinghill Hospital too!

The tough part for Page is that the journey is not over yet. He’s yet to get partial movement in his leg and any in his hand and is dependent on a walking stick amongst many challenges.
Sadly since leaving hospital his physio rehab is down to 20mins a week from a daily experience. This is what is needed to regain movement. Although he puts a positive spin on the fact that he gets a good night sleep, he’s got an uphill battle to regain movement again.

The goal he said is to get to a Stockport County FC match in the new year with his fellow stroke ward graduates Mark, Gaz, Ali and Alan - the youngest being 56 and the oldest being 69. We are told they are legends and can share a good story over a pint.

Sadly for Page he’s 22 years their junior. No one should be threatened with loss of walking aged 32. A trainee NHS mental health nurse, he knows the pressures the NHS system is under and the fact he will need to go private to keep up his physio. He’s committed his savings to achieve that. However, with no ability to work ahead, no insurance it’s not a fair picture for anyone to look forward to heading into the new year.

As his mates, we’ve sat wondering what to do to help and this is a place to start if you could donate a monetary gift the same value as an Xmas present you’d likely spend this season- it would go a long way to helping him maximise his chance to walk again and get to this game!

A basic neurophysiotherapy session costs £69 and the top session is £159. To keep up the rate he was receiving at Hospital it would amount to £30k a year. Anything will help go to chipping away at this and enable protecting his savings to help with life’s essentials that are ahead.

He knows nothing of this and is a man whose pride means he’d continue without a word. However, to those we circulate this with, you will have shared a beer with him, played a rugby match alongside or had a sweaty hug from him in the past…. This would mean a lot to him achieve the best chance of recovery.

Lets get him to that game!

Now Max & Cam have got a little more creative and between them and their combined weight of 35+ stone they’ve crazily decided to run 100k in 10 days before Xmas and push their bodies to their limit to help raise awareness & continued support. We’re told there’s some other ideas to come too…

Thank you again for your support!
