Urgent Medevac and Family Support After Dad’s Crash

UPDATE #2 - 5/17/25
Todd had a 6-7 hour surgery on Thursday to put his ribcage back together. He had ribs 2-10 on the left side in “more than 3 pieces”. They ended up fixing 4 ribs and didn’t want to risk making a larger incision. The other ribs CAN heal on their own. They went around with a camera and feel good about what they saw. They burned nerve endings which is to numb him (help with pain)… this will last 3 ish months.

This day was SO long. From pre-op to back in his room in the ICU, it was 12 hours.

Doctor removed 1 of 3 chest tubes today. He’ll try for another tomorrow but wants to go slow. On the left side he still has a “puncture” in the lung, they are keeping and eye on this. It’s still draining a bunch.

He will need surgery on his hand. Haven’t seen that doctor today so unsure details.

We’ve been given a very rough timeline if all goes well…. 1 more week in hospital (give or take) and 2 weeks in California after that. Everyone agrees it’s safer and more comfortable to stay put for a couple weeks after discharge in Airbnb and then slowly make the drive home. Airplane is off the table - research/studies are all over the place after this type of injury.

All his bruising is coming through so he’s pretty sore but moving his legs a lot better. He walked to and from the bathroom today (a few steps, but more that he’s done in over a week!).

Still rocking the man-bun. All the nurses just cannot believe he’s 62! Apparently his daytime nurse today guessed 42. He’s liking that

The gravity of how serious this is has started to set in for him. He’s told stories about what he remembers and gets emotional. He got to FaceTime a couple of the grandkids today which brought him to tears.

We love him so much and are so thankful he’s here with us. ❤️ Thank you so much for everyone sending your well wishes, donations and love we have received the last week. It’s been the small glimmers in our day!

UPDATE #1 - 5/14/2025
Yesterday dad was finally flown out of Cabo San Lucas, MX to the US on a fully equipped Medevac, with a critical care nurse and paramedic on board to keep him stable. The cabin was pressurized to near sea level—an essential detail for his condition. Mom was by his side the entire way. Ty, Chels, and Jordyn flew into San Diego and made the two-hour drive to meet them at the hospital.

There is an entire trauma team working on him who is coming up with a surgical plan. I’ll share more as soon as we know the actual extent of his injuries and what recovery may look like.

**we will do our best to update this gofundme with updates as lots is changing by the hour. The outpouring of concerns is appreciated but overwhelming to keep up with. We cannot respond to individual messages for updates at this time. **

Hi everyone,

Many of you have reached out asking how you can help — and we can’t thank you enough for the love and support you’ve already shown.

Our dad is currently in the ICU after a serious motorcycle accident in Mexico that left him with both lungs collapsed (a double pneumothorax), kidney failure, and internal bleeding. He’s being transferred to a larger hospital in Mexico for emergency cardiothoracic surgery, and while his condition is critical, we know he’s a fighter.

He’s the kind of person who shows up for everyone — whether it’s family, friends, or total strangers. And now, in his toughest moment, we’re seeing that love and care reflected back through all of you.

We’ve created this GoFundMe for those who have asked how they can support Todd’s recovery—whether it’s helping with travel expenses for family, covering a warm meal or coffee, or simply lightening the load for these unexpected costs during an incredibly hard time. Every donation, message, and share means more to us than words can express.

Thank you for being in our corner. We believe in his strength, and we’re so grateful for the strength you’re giving us.

With love,
Robert, Tyler, Jordyn & Chelsea
