January 13, 2018 I was a passenger in a car hit by a drunk driver. I was on the side of the car the suffered direct impact. The car was totaled, and I suffered intense whiplash. That triggered ( as accidents can do) my extensive past physical injuries and current chronic health issues.
I was enrolled in my second semester of college for computer science, and was unable to continue my course schedule due to pain, which compounded into mental strain and financial chaos, which has lead to a rapid progression of worsening symptoms.
Currently, I have Health Partners (thankfully) and I am attempting to navigate the Western medical system. It turns out there are a lot of really skilled specialists who can really help me heal. That being said, it will not be overnight, and will take an extensive amount of time and effort on my part as a patient.
I am starting on a journey of physical, cognitive and emotional rehabilitation that will very likely take years, which is unfortunate as the current state of my health dements and prevents my ability to work (The damage to the nerves in my legs may be permanent)
, which means I don't have any income to allocate towards paying for rent while I go through this process.
I need help. I know I am not the only person with problems but I need to stop trying to fight this alone, stop fighting this with anger (that comes from fear).I just keep lashing out, thinking I can do it alone if I just get tough enough.
So instead I'm going to do the opposite.
Please consider donating. I want to get back to being Tobias, but calmer and wiser from this life experience. I am trying to look at this as an opportunity for a fresh start in a healthy direction. One where my ability to care for myself isn't controlled by my pain.
Your donation would go towards helping me stay in my current living situation, helping with transportation to appointments, helping with bills and groceries, and help carve out some time for me to just rest.
Thank you for taking the time to hear my story, and thank you for being a part of my life.
