Let's work together to save the Tío Mane Reading Room!

Since 1993, the Tío Mane Reading Room has been a space of hope, learning, and culture in San José del Peñón, Montes de María, Colombia. Despite the challenges, this community has kept the library alive with love and effort, providing access to books, art, and knowledge for hundreds of children, youth, and adults.

Today, this space is at risk. Its asbestos roof is deteriorating, posing a health hazard to visitors and endangering the books that have shaped generations.

With your donation, we can replace the roof and ensure that this reading space remains a beacon of inspiration and learning for the entire community.

Additionally, this year marks the 15th anniversary of the Tío Mane Traveling Book Fair, an event that has brought the magic of reading to the region. Your support will make this edition unforgettable.

Expense Projection of Roof Replacement

35 sheets of thermoacoustic roofing tiles – Helps regulate temperature, keeping the reading space cooler in the Tropical Dry Forest climate.
Ridge caps – Structural support for the new roof.
Screws and fasteners – Ensures proper installation.
Electrical installation – Includes wiring, fans, light bulbs, and outlets to improve ventilation and lighting. Due to the hot and dry climate, fans are essential for comfort.
Labor costs – Covers removal of the old asbestos roof and installation of the new one.
Safety equipment – Necessary for safely removing and disposing of asbestos tiles.
Interior painting after installation – Once the new roof is in place, the walls and ceiling will need repainting to restore the space.
Transportation of materials – The Sala de Lectura is in a remote rural area with difficult access, unpaved roads, and limited transport options. Moving heavy construction materials from Barranquilla to San José del Peñón requires special logistics.
Unforeseen costs – Includes additional materials, extra labor, unexpected structural reinforcements, and platform deductions from Vaki and GoFundMe.

Trabajemos juntos para salvar la Sala de Lectura Tío Mane!

Desde 1993, la Sala de Lectura Tío Mane ha sido un espacio de esperanza, aprendizaje y cultura en San José del Peñón, Montes de María, Colombia. A pesar de los desafíos, esta comunidad ha mantenido vivo este lugar con amor y esfuerzo, ofreciendo acceso a libros, arte y conocimiento a cientos de niños, jóvenes y adultos.

Hoy, la sala está en peligro. Su techo, hecho de asbesto, está deteriorado y representa un riesgo tanto para la salud de quienes la visitan como para los libros que han acompañado a generaciones.

¿Cómo puedes ayudar?

Con tu donación, podremos reemplazar el techo y asegurar que la Sala de Lectura siga siendo un faro de inspiración y aprendizaje para toda la comunidad.

Además, este año celebramos 15 años de la Feria Itinerante del Libro Tío Mane, un evento que ha llevado la magia de la lectura a la región. Tu apoyo nos permitirá hacer de esta edición algo inolvidable.

Presupuesto y proyección de gastos para remplazar el techo:

35 láminas de tejas termoacústicas para regular la temperatura y hacer la sala más fresca en el Bosque Seco Tropical.
Caballetes para sostener la estructura del techo.
Tornillos y amarres para asegurar la instalación.
Instalación eléctrica, incluyendo cableado, ventiladores, bombillas y tomas eléctricas para mejorar la ventilación y la iluminación.
Mano de obra para desmontar el techo de asbesto y colocar el nuevo.
Implementos de seguridad para el retiro del asbesto de manera adecuada.
Pintura interior después de la instalación para restaurar el espacio.
Transporte de materiales desde Barranquilla hasta San José del Peñón, en una zona rural de difícil acceso, con costos logísticos elevados.
Costos imprevistos, incluyendo materiales adicionales, refuerzos estructurales y las comisiones de GoFundMe.
