Please Help Kitten Found After Being Hit On Freeway
Tax deductible
Curled up into a ball against the median and the two express lanes on one of the busiest freeways in Los Angeles, we were astounded that our founder, Julia, even spotted her. After circling back twice, Julia finally managed to pull over. "When I got to her, she didn't even lift her head. Even after scruffing her, she was limp until halfway back to the car when she woke. Her screams were painful to hear, but the best sign in that moment."
Rushed to the emergency hospital, it became clear she couldn't walk or stand. One leg was so severely broken it dangled from her hip. X-rays revealed not only a fractured femoral head and break in her femur in that leg but also three significant breaks in the other.
Yes, euthanasia was briefly considered, but the thought quickly vanished. Her vitals and blood work were within reasonable ranges, and her sheer will to live inspired everyone to give her a fighting chance.
We don't know how long she suffered against that median, alone, with cars whizzing by. Nor do we understand how she managed to cross seven lanes and survive. With an overpass above her, we suspect she might have fallen into the express lane or was thrown by someone. Now though, she is definitely not alone!
The bill to save her life is significant. We rarely reach out for help but we can't do this one our own. We do need help. We know that with a community of compassionate and engaged people, that together, we can match this little 2.1 lb girl's incredible will to live.
The first step is to get her stable and then to fix the leg with the femoral head fracture. Then the second leg. This will involve two days of surgery and extensive aftercare, ensuring she is comfortable throughout with pain management. We will update this page throughout this journey, and of course, please reach out to us with any questions.
We thank you in advance for any amount you can contribute. All donations are tax deductible and we can provide you with a receipt for your records.
With gratitude, the team of volunteers and this tiny, brave girl.
