Tim's Smile

Hello I am Tim OHara. I am 51 years old and have been through some very rough times since 2013.
In the summer of 2013, I  was diagnosed with Squamous Cell Carcinoma (skin cancer) on my left cheek. The spot was the size of a dime. I was in surgery for 10 hours and the cancer was 1 inch from my brain.
After the surgery I was scheduled for radiation treatments to my face.  Have you ever seen the process for radiation to the face? They take a mold of your face and head, make a mask and snap it down to a gurney while you recieve the radation. It was extrmemely uncomfortable, the mask is less than a half inch from your face. I was unable to move my head at all during 10 minute zapping. I endoured 33  of these treatments over 33 weeks.
Per "insurance " protocal your teeth need to be extracted prior to beginning radiation treatments. Radiation plays hell on your teeth and rots them quickly.
The night before I was scheduled for my teeth extraction, my world changed forever. I suffered a disabling stroke that left me with residual right upper and lower extrmeity paralysis.
Since , September of 2013 i have been fighting to recover from this stroke, that 11 doctors can not seem to find out what was the cause. I have fought my way back from being bed bound, wheeel chair dependant , using a cane to walk to being able to walk indepeiendeintly without any devices.
My great nephew Aaron encouraged and encouraged me till I was able to walk without my cane. Aaron is now 7 years old and we have a special bond because he never gave up on me.
I have a 13 year old daughte who still lives in PA with her mother and grandmother. As I recover back in my home time I would love to one day be able to look back at my daughter with a smile that she hasn't not seen in a very long time.
My girlfriend has been my rock. She has made my transitions from PA to my home town after 30 years easier. Being with Michelle reminds me of the fun guy I used to be and want to be again. I'm still a jokster and try not to take life to serious. How can you, life is full of surprises some good and some you could never have imagined.
I have been fortunate enough to obtain a great deal of asisstance in my pursuit of returning my smile. Becuse of the radiation, I am at risk for something called Radionecrosis, which can infect the jaw bones. The treament for this is 30 Hyperbaric Chamber treatments. Durnig this treatment the remaining teeth will be extracted. Atlantic Dental in Berlin, MD have kindly donated the dentures. The chamber treatments will be covered by insurance, except for $900 . Dr. Seidel, oral surgeon, Salsibury MD, has offered the teeth extraction at a discount of about$3500. None of the extraxction is covered by insurance.
I am hoping a few more generous folks will contribute to my fund for the extractions. I would be thankful for any support you can offer. I want to get my SMILE back.  Thank you for reading my tale and I wish you a happy and healthy life.
