Tim's Journey to Recovery
Donation protected
While taking a road trip vacation with his girlfriend, Tim had an unexpected stroke and was rushed to the hospital in Denver, Colorado. After multiple tests, it was determined that Tim as a condition called Moyamoya Disease, which is a rare blood vessel disorder where the main arteries at the base of the skull become blocked or narrowed, reducing blood flow to the brain. Tinny blood vessels then open up at the base to attempt to compensate and supply the brain with blood. Strokes are common with this condition, and usually a stroke is what brings on the testing to bring to light the diagnosis.
Tim is alert, walking well, and in good spirits. His biggest deficits are his confusions, memory lapses, and slurred speech. He will remain in Colorado for a few days so he can work on therapy and see how he progresses before heading home to Rochester to meet with a therapist for continued treatment and a surgeon.
There is no cure for Moyamoya and Tim will need surgery in order to prevent future strokes that could be much more debilitating. Tim will continue to need therapy in order to work on strengthening his brain to bring back his speech and cognition.
Tim has a long recovery ahead of him, and with that recovery comes the expense of treatment out in Colorado, upcoming surgery, and long term therapy. We have started this campaign to take some of the financial stress off of Tim so he can focus on his treatment and recovery.
Thank you all for supporting Tim on his journey to recovery. We will continue to keep everyone updated on this journey through CaringBridge. Please follow and send your words of encouragement along the way at
