Time to return the generosity to Janet
Donation protected
Hello,
I am Kim Bailey. I served on the PEI Road Runner executive & acted as Race Director for several
runs over the course of many years. It was during these years, I became friends with Janet Bain, a fellow club volunteer and a devoted mom to Alex, the running phenom who was at every race sporting the infamous yellow Autism tee shirt.
Janet’s contribution to the PEI Roadrunners Club has been exceptional. Not only was she at
virtually every race, covering
registration, taking finish line photos and being the “go to” for various supplies she stored in the trunk of her car, but she was also co race
director for the Great Canadian Soap Run, documentor of records and historian for the club. She provided a level of professionalism and organization second to none. Janet kept an “eye on us” whether we were competing here in PEI, in the Hawaii Ironman, crossing the River Styx in the Canadian Death Race or celebrating our birthday with a
100 mile trail run in the States. She kept us connected and this connection allowed us to be in awe of, and be inspired by, the incredible
feats of our fellow members while at the same time acknowledging their accomplishments. The club would not be where it is without her.
She was awarded Volunteer of the Year in 2008 & Roadrunner of the Year in 2010.
Janet’s commitment to the club is only surpassed by her obvious love and dedication to her son, Alex. With his mom behind him, Alex has followed his passion for running. Together, they provided us the opportunity to understand, appreciate and relate to Autism on a completely different level. Janet has been his loudest cheerleader and we have witnessed Alex’s growth over the years and his smile keeps getting a bit bigger!
Janet was recently diagnosed with terminal cancer. It is her wish to live the rest of her days where she loves-in her farm house-surrounded by her gardens, the fields dotted with wild flowers, the old trees that provided welcomed shade through the years,
the majestic sunrises and sunsets and the love of her children, Alex, Jesse,, Jasmine and Ben.
All money raised will go to Janet’s home care and anything remaining will be set aside in a fund for Alex.
It’s time to reciprocate the generosity Janet has given the club and it’s membership for over 20 years.
On behalf of Janet and her family, I thank you with all my heart.
Long May You Run,
Kim Bailey
