Help for Baby Lily and Her Family!

Baby Lily and Her Brothers

Earlier this year, Lily was welcomed into the world by her three older brothers. Her eldest brother Thomas lives with his father and stepmother most of the time, but Zach and Xander complete the Maroulakis Three under Three.

While the arrival of a new child is always a chaotic/ energetic affair, Lily's birth was far more nerve-fraying than most. Two months before her intended due date, Lily's mother Samantha was tending to her boys and the family's three dogs when she was suddenly overwhelmed by the sensation of her throat closing, and her limbs beginning to swell.

It was nothing short of a miracle that she managed to crate the dogs and call for help before being overcome by a seizure. The amazing EMT's of Olney, MD arrived in time to revive her when she coded in the front lawn. The situation was dire for both Samantha and Lily, and an emergency C-section was required to save both their lives. Lily was medivaced to the Georgetown Nicu, over an hour away from Montgomery Medstar where her mother would be treated. During this time, her father could not work and spent his time traveling between both hospitals with his two small boys.

Lily's and Her Mother's Medical Issues

This wasn't the first time a random seizure had almost claimed Samantha's life, earlier in her pregnancy she was behind the wheel with both boys when one hit and caused her to crash and total her vehicle. She has been unable to drive since. Doctors have been unable to diagnose the cause of these seizures or the trouble breathing, but in a turn for the worse, they discovered that Samantha has a mass growing on her spleen.

Worst of all, despite coming home briefly, Lily is back in the hospital with  MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus - an antibiotic-resistant infection). We are all extremely worried.

Her Parents

Lily is deeply loved by her parents who are close friends of many of us currently reading. Leo works two jobs and has striven to provide for his family, but an accident a few years back has left him injured and unable to work as he used to. Lily's mother is unable to work, suffers through pain daily, in addition to combating severe medical issues. This latest diagnosis of a mass on her spleen has been devastating. Her three brothers remain in good health, but the stress is beginning to affect all members of the family.

The Obstacles To Overcome

The situation is critical at the moment. The property where their home resides has been sold and they have less than 60 days to vacate. Due to the multiple hospital visits in the last months and lack of childcare, Leo has been unable to work enough hours to cover basic necessities, much less the growing medical expenses piling due to Lily's hospital stays and her mother's worrying ER visits. Both Sammie's physical and mental health are rapidly deteriorating and their benefits (as well as access to resources) have been cut dramatically. There is currently no possible transportation to take Sammie to therapy when she is on her own. They are in desperate need of formula, diapers, and funds to visit Lily in the hospital in addition to safe housing and medical treatment for mother and daughter.

Who I am, How You Can Help, And How Donations Will Be Handled

I am the godmother to these three wonderful children and best friends with their parents. I live halfway across the country but I can't sit idly by while our best friends suffer.  I have no idea how much to ask for, so I've set the donation at 5k. Once I fly up and  can assess the situation better i will update you guys on whats going on.

Donations will go towards stabilizing Lily and her Mother's health, as well as stabilizing their home environment and whatever it takes to get the family through this tough time. The main priority is to secure safe housing for them in MD and remove the immediate worry of how to reach the hospital and pay for food, diapers, and medicine.

My dream goal is to be able to raise enough to solve this situation completely, fund any treatments mother and daughter may need, as well as hire a nurse aide that can come during the week in case of another medical emergency and ease the heavy load of raising three under three. Any additional funds would be used for the children's education's and to facilitate the care of the family including trips to specialists if necessary and other things.

I will also be setting up a physical donations drop-offs for those who have items they would like the family to have.  Both in FL (so we can ship) and in DC proper. They are in urgent need of diapers sizes 6 no slip, 5 and newborn, and formula. I will be handling all arrangements for now.

I know this was terribly long, so I truly appreciate you taking the time to read this all. Any amount helps. Literally any. If you cant donate PLEASE SHARE THIS AND KEEP THE FAMILY IN YOUR PRAYERS!

I'll update this page as time goes.

Thank you!! This means the world to me, and to the Maroulakis Family!
