Thompson Family Harvey Recovery
Donation protected
On Friday August 25, Hurricane Harvey made landfall in Southeast Texas. The storm dumped well over 11 trillion gallons and more than 50 inches of rain on Texas residents. No city and no family can ever be fully prepared for that amount of rainfall. Houston will always be "home" for us no matter how far we live so we are heartbroken by this! Our hearts and prayers go out to the cities and people of Southeast Texas as we are sure so many others do too!
Feeling helpless but want to help? Don't know which organization to trust your money with? Would like to see where your money helps directly? We are the exact same way!
Please meet my sister, Diamond, her husband, Jack, and my beautiful niece, Winter. They live in Houston, Texas and they lost power, home & truck flooded and had to get rescued. Their neighborhood received 30 inches of rain in 12 hours! They have been living with family members since and have started the grueling process of gutting their home and dealing with adjusters/insurance. Yes, they have home insurance but most people not familar with tropical storms and hurricanes would be shocked at what is not covered or how little is offered (about 10% of personal belonging costs). The deductibles alone are thousands of dollars. Most of the money donated to the large organizations go to the people at the shelters and the first responders which is awesome but there are thousands of families like the Thompson Family who get left out. They are also considered not a priority and not guaranteed anything through FEMA since they have insurance and temporary housing. With the help of family they ripped out 2 ft. of drywall and insulation, but due to being without power for 5 days and the high Houston humidity, black mold set in and are unable to bring their daughter back home due to bad air quality. They sprayed bleach and mold preventer in hopes of saving the house but it didn't work out so now to mitigate the issue, a professional water/mold remediation company needs to be brought in.
The goal of $10,000 will help with mold remediation, replacing of cabinetry, new flooring, sheetrock, insulation, electrical work, new appliances, truck repairs, etc. All funds raised will go towards rebuilding the home and will be withdrawn as needed in the process.
Any amount, even $2, helps and is greatly appreciated!! This is a great way to see directly where your money goes to help a family impacted by Harvey.
Sincerely,
The Lee Family
