Thoan's cancer treatment fund

Thoan, my beloved husband of 25+ years has been diagnosed with stage 4 Malignant Mesothelioma, also known as asbestos cancer. He was exposed to asbestos 30 years ago while working in construction in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. We are both Dutch and moved to the USA 20 years ago. His subtype of Mesotheloma, sarcomatoid, is the most aggressive and fastest growing form of this cancer. Mesothelioma has an unusually long incubation time but in June 2015 Thoan was diagnosed.
At time of diagnosis the cancer had already metastized and is now in an advanced stage.
Thoan has had 4 rounds of standard Alimta/Cisplatin chemotherapy but the chemo was unsuccessful. We just found out yesterday, Sept 1, 2015, that his tumors have grown a staggering 40% since his last scan in June! He is not a candidate for surgery because the cancer has metastisized. The only option left for him is to enroll in a clinical trial so he can get a drug called Pembrolizumab, also known as Keytruda. This is a phase II trial and the only trial currently available accepting patients with his kind of cancer. This drug has shown encouraging results in Lung and Breast cancer and is currently being tested for Mesothelioma. The trial is 24 months long and held in Chicago. Thoan will need to travel to Chicago every 21 days from Berkeley, CA to get an infusion of this drug. It is crucial he get the drug, without this treatment his prognosis is very very dire. Thoan has had to close his business so I am now the sole provider. We need to raise $ 25,000 for him so he can travel to Chicago every 21 days to get an infusion of this medication.
There is no guarantee the drug will work but it is the ONLY option left to us. With our income cut in half we are facing financial challenges. Yet we must find a way for him to be able to partake in this important trial. Thoan is still feeling well and physically able to travel. He is not , thank god, in a lot of pain but as the tumors grow we can expect this to change.
I cannot idly stand by and lose the Love of my Life. We have no children and no family in the US. We must fight this horrible cancer and with your help and generous donation I believe we can do this together. Thank you for your generosity.
