They Carried Us describes the social impact and leadership contributions of black women in Philadelphia, from the 1600's through the current day.
They Carried Us features historical biographies and photographs of 50 early forerunners, as well as interviews and photographs of 50 contemporary black women leaders.
They Carried Us is intended for the general reader compassionate about black history and black women's historical contributions; women in professional leadership roles; emerging women leaders; and as a text for women's history, african american history, leadership and gender studies courses in higher education.
RELEASE DATE WINTER 2017/2018
We are under contract with Arch Street Press of Bryn Mawr, PA to produce an 8 1/2 x 8 1/2 collection of historical biographies, narrative stories and black and white photographs of Black Women Leaders whose efforts have had major social impact on Philadelphia, the surrounding region and Nation. We have finalized the selection of 50 forerunners, completed 50+ interviews with contemporary women and are currently writing the full manuscript for submission on May 31, 2017.
We are soliciting funding for the following purposes:
1. 50+ high quality photographic images
2. Transcription services
3. Research support
4. Web design for official project website
