7 Women, 7 Cultures, 1 Play: An epic 3-state tour

My name is Sherna Ann Phillips (formerly known as S. Ann Johnson). I am a scholar, performer and writer from Baltimore, Maryland currently living peachy in Atlanta where I will launch a three-city tour of my play, "The XX Chromosome Genome Project" (or "Double X," for short) – a multicultural choreopoem featuring 7 women of 7 flavors who paint a picture of womanhood through poetry, melody and movement. It’s like For Colored Girls, but with women of 7 different cultures.

"Double X" is a profound and important reminder that diversity need not mean division—and that the harmony the world much needs may best be learned from people called women.
The tour will take place this summer in Birmingham, Alabama, Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Metro Atlanta, Georgia. Travel, rehearsals, and cast and crew stipends all add up to approximately $6000. I don’t have $6000, but what I do have is a pen and a passion. I wrote the script and have been workshopping it for 9 years.
This tour will conclude the workshop phase of this production, meaning this tour will be the last time I solicit any feedback about the script and make any further changes. By making this tour happen, you will be a part of "Double X" history, as a producer for the 2nd most credited choreopoem on Wikipedia .
