The Way of Quiet Light Bible Project

Some projects begin with an idea. Others begin with a story. This one begins with both faith and family history.

For centuries, the Geneva Bible stood as one of the most important Bibles ever printed in the English language. First published in 1560 and later revised in 1599, it became the Bible of reformers, early settlers, and ordinary believers who wanted to read scripture for themselves.

It was the Bible carried by many of the early English families who came to the New World.

Families like mine.

My family lineage traces back to England and into the early colonial period, with our ancestors arriving in the Americas in 1639. Within the next few decades, our family will mark 400 years in the New World—a milestone that represents centuries of faith, hardship, perseverance, and history.

The Geneva Bible would have been the kind of Bible those early generations carried with them.

And now, centuries later, I find myself returning to it again. But in a very different way.

A Personal Journey of Faith

My journey toward this project did not begin in a church, a seminary, or an academic institution.

It began during a period of personal reflection and rediscovery of faith.

Like many people, my spiritual journey has not been a straight path. There have been seasons of questioning, seasons of searching, and moments of clarity that slowly reshaped how I understand faith and scripture.

Out of that process came a framework that I now call The Way of Quiet Light.

The Way of Quiet Light is built on a simple idea:
Returning to the teachings of Christ in a way that strips away unnecessary complexity and focuses on the essence of the message itself.

The followers of Christ were not scholars or elites.

They were fishermen.
Laborers.
Tax collectors.
Ordinary people.

They followed Christ because his words spoke to them directly.

Faith was not meant to be locked behind institutions or academic barriers. It was meant to be lived, understood, and shared by everyday people.

This philosophy became the foundation for much of the work I began writing about.

One of those works was my book The Keeper’s Lantern, which explores themes of reflection, purpose, faith, and the search for meaning.

But even as that project was completed, I realized something. There was still a much larger piece missing.

The Project That Became the Crown Jewel
As I continued studying scripture and reflecting on the teachings of Christ, I found myself returning again and again to the Geneva Bible.

Not simply as a historical artifact. But as a foundation. Yet there was a problem. For most modern readers, the Geneva Bible is incredibly difficult to read.

The spelling reflects Early Modern English.
The grammar belongs to another era.
Many words appear in forms that modern readers struggle to recognize.

The message is still there. But the language itself has become a barrier. That realization sparked the beginning of this project. The goal is not to rewrite scripture. The goal is not to produce a new translation.

The goal is something far more careful and deliberate:
Modernizing the spelling and grammar of the 1599 Geneva Bible so modern readers can understand it while preserving the original meaning of the text.

When this project is complete, it will become two books:
A Modernized 1599 Geneva Bible
A Way of Quiet Light Study Bible

Together, these works will represent what I see as the culmination of my journey through faith and reflection.

In many ways, it will be the crown jewel of everything I have been building toward.

The Scale of the Work
When I first began processing the manuscript, I quickly realized just how enormous this undertaking truly is.

The version of the Geneva Bible I am working with contains:
• 1,219 pages
• Approximately 824,000 words
• Over 70,000 spelling and grammar issues detected by modern analysis tools

Even converting the original manuscript into a usable digital file took over an hour just to scan and process.

What appears at first glance to be a simple editing project becomes something far more complex.

Every page must be reviewed. Every spelling change must be verified. Every grammatical update must preserve the original meaning of the scripture.

This work cannot be rushed. It requires patience, research, and careful attention. A Legacy for the Next Generation

In the coming decades, my family will reach a remarkable milestone.

Nearly 400 years of history in the New World.

Generations before us carried their faith through uncertain times, building families and communities that would shape the world we live in today.

The idea that I could take a historic Bible so closely connected to that era and help reshape it so it can be read for generations to come carries a profound sense of responsibility.

This project is not just about restoring an old text. It is about creating something that can endure. Something that future generations can open, read, and understand. Something that keeps the message alive.

In that sense, this work represents more than a book.

It represents a legacy.

How You Can Help
Projects of this scale require an enormous amount of time and effort.

The work ahead will involve thousands of hours of careful editing, research, verification, and preparation before the final books are ready for publication.

Support from this campaign will help fund:
• the time required to carefully modernize the manuscript
• research tools and language analysis software
• technical processing of the text
• editing and formatting for publication
• preparation of both the Geneva Bible and Study Bible editions

Most importantly, it allows the work to be done carefully and faithfully.

The Work Has Already Begun
The manuscript is being processed.
The files are being prepared.
The first steps of the project are already underway.

What lies ahead is a long journey—but one that I believe is worth taking.

If this vision resonates with you, I invite you to help bring it to life.

Together, we can restore one of the most important Bibles in history and ensure that its message continues to reach readers for generations to come.
