Where Our Story Began
We are incredibly grateful to have been in the safe and compassionate hands of the remarkable team at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. From the nurses who treated us like family to the doctors who worked tirelessly and never gave up on him, every person we encountered showed true dedication, empathy, and professionalism. They became our support system - offering not only exceptional medical care but also emotional comfort when we needed it most.
Now, we want to give back - to help raise awareness, fund research and clinical advancements for gastrointestinal cancers, starting right where our story began. This foundation will stand as a lasting tribute to Mukesh and a source of hope for patients and families facing similar battles.
We lost our hero on April 12th, 2025 at just 43 years old. He was the light of our family - always smiling, laughing, and spreading positivity, even when life tested him in unimaginable ways.
Mukesh was a man who gave his all in everything he did. He was loving, dedicated, and devoted to his family and friends - always the first to lend a hand, fix something, or offer a word of encouragement. Whether it was a neighbor, coworker or stranger, he made everyone feel like family.
By day, Mukesh worked full-time as a professional AZ driver, and by evening, he poured his heart and energy into his Tent Rentals and Events business. He managed it all single-handedly from handling bookings and paperwork to lifting, setting up, and delivering heavy tents.
Having immigrated to Canada with his parents and siblings in search of a brighter future, he spent his life working tirelessly to support his family and those around him. He often joked that we would finally rest once he retired, but sadly, that day never came.
His Brave Journey
In October 2021, he was diagnosed with stage 4B Gastroesophageal cancer, a rare and aggressive form typically found in older individuals. Hearing that such a young, healthy, and energetic man could face this was devastating. Yet, Mukesh faced it head-on, undergoing countless immunotherapy treatments, chemotherapy sessions, and clinical trials with resilience, faith, and hope.
Even during the hardest moments, when his body grew weak, he never let cancer take away his positivity or purpose. While undergoing treatment, he refused to slow down. Even after long, exhausting days at the hospital, he would still focus on his work - setting up heavy tents, managing his events business, and making sure everything ran perfectly.
As his cancer journey continued, Mukesh’s body began to change. Month by month, his appetite faded. He could no longer enjoy solid food and relied mostly on liquids to sustain him. Despite severe discomfort, multiple esophageal stent procedures, and the constant struggle to swallow, he never complained. Three stents were placed to help him eat, yet even then, he faced immense pain and difficulty.
Still, Mukesh continued to think of others. He would help feed those around him, making sure everyone else had eaten — even as he remained on an empty stomach himself. His strength and selflessness were unmatched. While most would have given in to the pain, Mukesh kept going, showing up for his work, installing heavy tents, and smiling through it all. He truly embodied courage — a man whose heart and determination never wavered, no matter what he faced.
Mukesh was more than a husband, father, son, brother and uncle - he was the soul of our family. His 11-year-old daughter was his greatest joy and motivation. Every decision he made was for her happiness and future. He dreamed of watching her grow, guiding her through life, and celebrating her achievements. Though he is no longer physically with us, his laughter, love, and lessons will live forever in all of us.
Our Mission: Turning Pain into Purpose
Through this campaign, we aim to:
- Establish a dedicated foundation fund at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre for gastrointestinal cancers.
- Support families and patient undergoing the same difficult journey with compassion and care.
- Contribute to research and innovation that can lead to earlier detection, improved treatments, and, one day, a cure.
Every contribution - no matter how small - brings us one step closer to lasting change. Your support will not only honor Mukesh's life and legacy, but also bring hope and help to countless other families find strength, care, and hope in their fight.
From our hearts to yours, thank you sincerely for your compassion, kindness, and belief in this cause. Together, we can keep Mukesh's light shining - through love, strength, and the power to make a difference.
In loving memory of our hero, Mukesh Paul - forever missed, forever loved, and forever inspiring.
