Tasha (Lee) Laudat fund

My friend, soror, wife and mother of two has been placed in hospice care for Pancreatic Cancer. This is my part to help her family when she transitions.

Background: My friend, and Delta Sigma Theta soror and fellow Georgia Southern alumni, Tasha (Lee) Laudat, wife and mother of two, was diagnosed with Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer in May 2013 and given a prognosis of 3-6 months to live. By God’s grace, it’s October 2015 and she is still here! Tasha’s husband, Andrew Laudat II, and two wonderful boys, Andrew III (Tre), age 12 and Tyler, age 9, have always been the focus of her life and have inspired her to maintain a level of excellence and sacrifice throughout her life and this journey

Shortly after her diagnosis, she sent the boys to live with her sister (Tonya Mackie) and brother-in-law (Charles Mackie) in Augusta, GA for the school year as she was determined to fight hard but didn’t want the boys to see her sick. She believed that God would heal her and that the boys would never have to know. In typical fashion, she put her boys’ feelings before her own.

At the end of the school year, they decided that no matter what, the boys needed to be with their mother and that they could ALL fight this together. This seemed to have given Tasha a new purpose and she seemed to have recovered almost overnight! She began caring for the boys, checking homework, cooking dinner, even driving again.

She has been a fighter throughout this entire process. When initially diagnosed, she still worked remotely from her doctor’s office while receiving treatments. Her boss loved her so much that they allowed her to do this for as long as she was physically able. Unfortunately, Tasha has been unable to work in the last 2 years.

In late August, she insisted that she attend the annual family reunion in NC because she hadn’t been in a few years. She was a little weak but made it through. However, shortly after returning, she was put into the hospital due to complications and has not been back home since that time.

Tasha is now in hospice where they have stopped all cancer treatments and are focusing on quality of life for the time she has left. She has had an outpouring of love from family, friends, and neighbors and knows that she is truly loved although weak and tired with her husband and sons by her side.

As you can imagine this illness has been financially draining for her family. I am kindly asking you to  contribute to this fund to help this family with the extensive medical bills and to ensure that her boys can have a few of the things as they grow their mother would have given them if she is no longer here.

Whether you are a parent, sibling or child, her story is one that reminds us of how important it is to love those around you while you are able and treasure every moment.

THANK YOU in advance and God bless.
