LOGLINE

Set against the backdrop of the miner’s strike, a working-class family must come to terms with the fate of their dying farm.

WHO ARE WE?

We're a team of third-year creative filmmakers studying at The Northern Film School with big aspirations for our graduation project.

We have great future ambitions for the project . We plan to turn the film into a full-length feature, using this short as a proof of concept.

THE FILM

'The Dalesman's Litany is a narrative short film set in 1984 at the height of the miner’s strike. We follow a working-class, divided family of three, as they come to terms with and battle the fate of their dying farm.

A father, too attached to his legacy to abandon it.

A mother, desperate to leave and join the nearing communities.

A young boy, who just wants to be a kid.

THE IDEA BEHIND IT

‘The Dalesman’s Litany’ was largely inspired by the Miner’s Strike of the 1980s. The country was at war with itself. Communities came together in their most desperate moment, but there was also opposition from the working-class itself.

From this, we created our protagonist, Martin. A man of traditional values aching to make his own path without help, desperate to create his legacy within his son. This story allowed us to explore the death of the capitalist dream, toxic masculinity and generational trauma, all at the backdrop of an incredibly harrowing and personally affecting time for us.
