Newport – The Town of “The Two Graces”

Let us introduce ourselves, we are The Newport Business Association, we got together in 2017 to be a collective voice for local businesses and to promote the town of Newport and surrounding villages to visitors, investors and as a great place in which to live.
Newport, a picturesque town in Co. Mayo, on Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way, is nestled on the shores of Clew Bay and located in the heart of the Great Western Greenway. Newport is steeped in history & heritage, with a significant emphasis on seafaring & emigration. Newport has the only ancestral link to Princess Grace (Kelly)of Monaco as well as the long-standing historical link with the Pirate Queen, “Grainne Uaile”- Grace O'Malley,
Newport now wishes to celebrate these strong ancestral connections. The Newport Business Association is undertaking to deliver a statue of each of these two iconic women & to promote Newport as the town of the “Two Graces”.
This project will give Newport its own unique identity, therefore will increase revenue for the town in the form of increased tourism activity.
The Newport Business Association is working closely with Mayo Co Council for the successful implementation of this project. We are also in the process of securing public funding through the Rural Development LEADER Programme, which if successful will contribute 75% of the costs. Newport Business Association will have to raise the remaining 25% from private sponsorship, donations, other fundraising events.
We are calling on all our friends who love Newport to help in raising sufficient funds to make this project happen for Newport. All or any donations are greatly appreciated and Newport Business Association will be fully accountable in carefully managing the “Two Graces” Fund.
