Help us bring The Misfired Affair from the script to the screen.
The Project Groundwork
The Misfired Affair has been in the works for years with brainstorming and screenwriting, but 2025 marks a turning point. With an active script in hand, we're currently deep into casting, budgeting, and crew assembly. We've been collaborating with talent from across the country and building the foundation for this period piece to come to life.
Most notably, The Misfired Affair has obtained SAG-AFTRA Affiliation under the "Student Film Agreement". With this milestone, the project has secured two out of four actors, and is in stride of reaching out to higher-level talent for the roles of P.I. Evelyn Gardner and Ms. Isabella Mazza.
The crew has also covered enormous ground. Every department from camera to costume has a student, alumni, or local professional leader, ready to perfect the creative and technical asks of The Misfired Affair.
On top of that, shooting locations are scouted and locked. The Misfired Affair has discovered historic alleyways and hotels in Southeastern Ohio, collaborating with the local community to bring the past to the present.
The Pitch
As World War II rages overseas and women step into roles long denied to them, their apparent progress comes with a cost. The Misfired Affair explores this paradox through the eyes of Evelyn Gardner as she undertakes a new role and discovers a dark underbelly of the American home front.
She stumbles into a case of domestic violence, but the victim remains uncooperative. Evelyn takes matters into her own hands and follows the trail to the East End Motel. She comes face-to-face with the brutal reality of violence and her fear of mirroring the women she’s trying to save.
The Passion Behind This Project
Throughout my time at Ohio University, I’ve spent countless hours working on both student and professional sets. The Misfired Affair is the culmination of that journey: my capstone film and final hurrah before graduation.
Additionally, The Misfired Affair was born from two women who shaped my life: my mother and my grandmother. As a child, I watched domestic violence unfold from the sidelines, witnessing my mother’s grief. At the same time, my grandmother's stories sparked a lifelong fascination with history.
The Misfired Affair is a love letter to both of them. It is a film about women caught in hardship, and what it means to choose action when the world demands passivity.
The Finish Line
But even with all these pieces in motion, one crucial element remains: community support. We will use our crowdfunding for equipment rentals, travel expenses, catering, and contracts. While grants and personal savings have accumulated, this project's potential isn't headed anywhere without your help.
If you would like to support this community-fostered collaboration, please donate to The Misfired Affair! Any amount helps!
