The Great Kit Challenge 2021

HELP US HELP OUR ARTISTS WITH THE #THEGREATKITCHALLENGE2021 

We are Top Floor Art, the home of over forty artists and makers who live and work in Northern Ireland, and the Top Floor Art Studio Group, an arts collective that is dedicated to supporting local communities through sharing their creative skills and encouraging traditional textile techniques.

Our project, the Great Kit Challenge 2021 is designed to help artists and makers diversify after lockdown and bring a creative kit idea, based on their work, to life and spread the creativity love to the public.

Designing any new work and sourcing the right materials can be a difficult and overwhelming task, especially during lockdown. Many artists and makers have found it difficult to keep their profession alive and make ends meet.

With your help 13 artists and makers will each get a budget of £50 and 4 community artists will each get a budget of £100 for research and development and to pay for materials to help them create their kit. We will provide support and online resources, mentoring and feedback We also plan to celebrate the project, the makers, and everybody who has made this project possible with an exhibition of our artists’ kits and work here at Top Floor Art Gallery in
August 2021.

There are 2 categories in our project.

The first is Individual, where we support an artist to make their prototype and get professional feedback about all aspects of the process, including, marketing, and getting their kit ready for sale to the public.

The second is Communities, where an artist designs a kit for a specific community group and gets our support to create a safe and appropriate creative experience at no cost to the group members.

And that’s where you come in. We are looking for small donations that will make a big impact for our artists and makers. All likes, shares, comments, and donations, no matter how small, are welcome.

What we will spend the money on:

£1050      -         Materials budget for individual & community artists

£ 650        -          Exhibition set-up & associated costs

£1500      -          Project management & mentoring

£ 300        -          Marketing & publicity

£ 300        -          Contingencies & sundries

Overfunding - if we exceed our funding goal we plan to put any extra money towards planning a bigger, better Great Kit Challenge in the future!
