The Gift of Chess gives 5000 sets across Africa

Tax deductible
From New York City to Ikorodu!

The Gift of Chess is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization transforming lives through the universal language of chess.

The Gift of Chess distributes chess sets and technology, leveraging the power of chess to create community, expand opportunity and connection, and ultimately change lives.

Last summer, the Gift of Chess donated 10,000 sets and access to chess technology to students across NYC.

After a successful start in NYC's schools, the Gift of Chess has now expanded to include four separate initiatives - youth education and global, elderly, and prison outreach.

As part of our first global outreach efforts, we are thrilled to announce that in partnership with Chess in The Slums Africa, we are expanding the Gift of Chess to Lagos, Nigeria.

Chess is a great equalizer and shared universal language that expand opportunities for all! Chess breaks down barriers and facilitates connections across age, race, gender and socioeconomic status. Heads of state can sit across the chessboard from children from the slum communities and be perfectly equal .

On March 20th - 24th, Tyrone Davis III , a founding board member of The Gift of Chess, traveled to Lagos to work directly with Tunde Onakoya to help provide 500 chess sets to the kids within the Lagos community.

New York City native and US Chess Master, Tyrone is currently finishing his senior year at MIT where he is currently president of the chess club.

Tunde, also a Chess Master, has been globally recognized for his efforts as the founder of the Chess-in-the-Slums Africa initiative!

After successfully distributing the initial 500 sets (you can view a short overview of the trip from Tyrone's perspective here) and given an incredible demand for additional sets, we are excited to announce that we raising funds to send an additional 5,000 sets for distribution across Nigeria, Kenya and Uganda.

As a recognized 501(c)(3) charitable organization, all donations made to The Gift of Chess through our partnership with GoFundMe Charities will be tax-deductible.

We welcome all sponsors, including corporations, foundations, and individuals.

In the words of Tunde Onakoya  - "It is possible to do great things from a small place."

Thank you for your support in helping us transform lives through the power of chess - one child, one set, one game - at a time.
