I never imagined my life would change so drastically when I came home from work on Tuesday, February 25th.

Hi everyone, this is Tetra—my 9-year-old German Shepherd mix. She has had a mostly clean bill of health up until now. If you've ever had the pleasure of meeting her, you’ll agree that she’s one of the sweetest, smartest, and most emotionally intuitive dogs out there! Despite her good health over the years, sometimes unexpected things happen out of the blue and hit you like a train.

On Tuesday night, I had to rush Tetra to the emergency vet due to internal bleeding. They performed an ultrasound and blood work but couldn’t see the exact source of the bleeding. However, they suspected a splenic tumor was leaking. This morning, we followed up with our primary vet for a second ultrasound, which confirmed the presence of a splenic tumor.

There is a high chance this could be hemangiosarcoma, an aggressive and often fatal form of cancer. The only way to determine if the tumor is benign or malignant is to remove Tetra’s spleen and send it for biopsy. This surgery is highly invasive, costly, and requires continuous monitoring. She will need to be transferred between her primary vet during the day and the emergency clinic at night for several days after the procedure, followed by chemotherapy treatment if it is cancerous.

Right now, we don’t know what to expect. The results of the biopsy will determine the next steps, but we want to give Tetra every possible chance. Any support, whether through donations or simply sharing her story, means the world to us.
