After being admitted to Owen Sound Hospital for stroke symptoms Vicki was officially diagnosed having had a mild stroke. She was kept in hospital as her blood work was very low and on Feb. 16, 2018 Vicki was diagnosed with APL ( Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia). After 7 weeks of hospitalization in Princess Margaret, Toronto Vicki is now embarking on an eight month battle as an outpatient.
APL is a rare but acute form of leukemia that could have been fatal if it had not been diagnosed and treated so quickly. The outlook is positive for Vicki as she is in remission with a projected cure rate of 90%.
In order to achieve this, Vicki will need to receive 4 cycles of daily chemo at London Regional Cancer Centre while also taking oral chemo of ATRA. This will be an 8 month treatment protocol which in itself creates costs.
This GoFundMePage will be used to support the costs of having to travel for treatment, live away from her home and to help ensure bills are paid during a period of reduced income. It will also help to pay travel costs for her children to support her during recovery.
