Experimental Marine Vehicle Project

We are a college senior project team made up of five highly motivated Mechanical Engineering students from Cal Poly Pomona.  Our names are Brian, Andrew, Ketton, Abraham, and Ben and we are Team UV.

Currently, naval Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) is completed by our troops, putting them in danger.  In order to keep our warriors out of harm’s way, we are developing an unmanned underwater reconnaissance vehicle that can perform these functions without risking the lives of the special operators in the field.  In addition to benefiting the defense industry, this type of vehicle could be used to make ground-breaking advances in the fields of mine detection, underwater inspection, and exploration, effectively opening up the door for a new way to explore the marine environment.

During the past 6 months, we have developed an innovative underwater propulsion system that advances beyond the traditional propeller.  In addition to this, we conducted massive amounts of research into the behavior of water as it relates to propulsion.  This research has been applied to the optimization of our propulsion system and we have begun to incorporate it into a cutting edge, stealthy, highly maneuverable, unmanned underwater vehicle.

In the hope of inspiring interest in science and engineering, we have created a website (TeamUV.org ) dedicated to providing insight into the world of engineering and its effect on everyday life.  We post articles sharing some of the research we have conducted, the engineering mindset, and current advancements and discoveries in the fields of science and engineering.

We are currently preparing to manufacture our vehicle for testing, but lack the funds to complete the project.  Our only barrier is financial.  We are a dedicated, passionate team, who needs your help to achieve our goals to modernize the way vehicles move underwater.  Your support would directly enable us to produce a solution that could save lives and help to further explore the world’s oceans.  Every donation, regardless of size, will help.
