Steve Spencer has been a hard working man since he was old enough to do so. He and his wife of 36 years, Nancy, a school teacher who has dedicated her life to educating and caring for children with special needs, are two of the most genuinely kind and supportive people that
are always striving to help those around them.
In October of 2015, Steve was diagnosed with stage 2 small cell lung cancer – a devastating reality for the family of four. Steve, a mechanic whom you could always count on to go out of his way to help people with their car issues – even when they could not afford his services, has been in the hospital since the diagnosis and has been unable to work (although he would show up to work in a wheelchair with a smile if they would let him leave the hospital!)
Of all the families I know, this is one of the closest and loving, Steve, Nancy and kids - Shanan and Cory are truly are a unit that is fighting this terrible disease as one. Steve's son, Cory Spencer has spent every single night sleeping in the chair next to his father’s hospital bed – making jokes with the nurses and keeping spirits high, helping in any way possible.
As you can imagine, the surgeries and hospital bills are weighing immensely on the family’s hearts, a struggle that many people face in these terrible situations. Not to mention, that his wife and kids are driving two hours round trip to be by his side every day and moment that they can. Although they are always trying to give anything they have, they are not very good at taking – so, as their family and friends we are asking and praying for any help at all. It will go directly to them and support their fight to beat this awful disease and hopefully ease some of the destruction of their new reality.
We know that financial woes are heavy upon us all but any contribution at all would be so greatly appreciated by them and by their extended family and friends – as we have to watch our loved ones going through so much heartache. We just want to help these amazing people. Our prayers go out to any other family that is facing tough circumstances and we truly appreciate any well wishes in return.
