We Support Team Smith!

Hey everybody,

Today, as we start this new year, most of us have a great deal to be thankful for including our good health, which is easy to take for granted. Last year proved to be challenging for many who have been fighting cancer. There is no doubt cancer has touched us all. With that being said, nobody has had a rougher end to 2016 then the Smith family. James Smith has been fighting a tough battle against cancer that began last spring, and has over the past few months ramped up, leaving James in the fight of his life at KU Med.

The thing about the Smith family is they are fighters and as “Team Smith”, they are one strong unit! James and Jenny have not asked for help, you see, James and Jenny are usually the ones in our community helping everyone else! I can think of countless times I have watched these two support our schools and community. In 2016, I watched this community rally around a cause and come together like nothing I’ve ever seen before. People from all walks of life were working together towards one common goal, to defeat cancer and support our own. It makes me extremely proud to say I am from Platte County; nothing beats the camaraderie and everlasting relationships of small town Platte City that each and every one of us has experienced.

James and Jenny are hometown proud! Both were raised in Platte City and chose to raise their two boys Taylor and Ethan here. Everyone who has ever met James has experienced his easy going, soft spoken nature. He is genuine to the core. Jennifer, well, she is truly one of the kindest individuals on the face of this earth. I could go on and on about these two. Taylor recently graduated from college and is working at the High School as a substitute teacher and Assistant Wrestling Coach and Ethan just completed his first semester of college at Missouri Southern. You know that this whole situation has taken a toll on the entire family.

It is heartwarming to know that there has been an abundance of people who have offered to help. Fighting this battle takes a financial tole on families and if you would like to support the Smith family during this challenging time, please feel free to use the attached link. I know that I greatly appreciate you all taking the time to read this and helping out a family who deserves the absolute best.

I’d also like to promote the “CANCER CAN SUCK IT SHOWCASE” (Love the Name) which will be a week from today, Sunday January 8th from 6-8PM at the Kansas City Improv Comedy Club in Zona Rosa and will be hosted by WillC. There will be a silent auction and a portion of all proceeds including ticket sales will go to the Smith family as well. Tickets are still available at www.improvkc.com.

I ask that you please share this and help spread the word. Let’s show cancer what we can do and let’s show the Smith family we are strong supporters of Team Smith!
