TeamMisty, Athletic Crutches for Adaptive Athletes
Donation protected
This campaign is for my friend Misty Diaz, a spartan racer + marathon runner + adaptive needs advocate. Misty is a WARRIOR. She was born with Spina Bifida and has had 28 operations in her life. She lives on forearm crutches and is in desperate need of a new pair.
After facing a near death suicide attempt, Misty found the strength to stand up and walk, with her forearm crutches, to find purpose and a healthy lifestyle. In 2012 she ran her first marathon. Now she is a competitor in weight lifting competitions, a spartan race winner, and travels the world teaching children with mobility issues how to stay active. She is a huge inspiration to children, women, and athletes all over the world. But we are in need of your help!
Together, we are developing NEW crutches for Misty’s high performance activity level so she can be the first forearm crutch user to climb Mount Kilimanjaro! Forearm crutches do not perform well for active users, and have created several mobility issues that has resulted in a loss of grip strength. Misty now has even more difficulty running, driving, or holding objects in her hands.
Misty is not just in it for herself- these are issues that all forearm crutch users experience. We are looking to raise these funds to develop and manufacture new, high performance crutches that ideally can be taken to market and help adaptive users all over the world! These funds would contribute to our research and development process, business needs, materials, design work, and the travel fees to send Misty to Mount Kilimanjaro.
We are raising this money throughout October for Spina Bifida Awareness month, and truly appreciate any amount that can be contributed by our donors. Even the smallest amount would help us!
