The Jeffrey “Mitch” Lortz Scholarship
Donation protected
This fund is to honor the memory and spirit of Mitch Lortz. The proceeds will go to establishing the The Jeffrey “Mitch” Lortz Scholarship which will be given to a select student at Acton Boxborough Regional High School, Mitch's Alma Mater. The funds will be administered and distributed to deserving students by Acton-Boxborough Regional High School (by Melissa Andrew, Assistant Treasurer of Acton Boxborough Regional School District)
Mitch Lortz passed away on August 10th, 2019 at the age of 24 after a courageous four year battle with cancer. Despite the severity of his prognosis, and the resulting treatment, Mitch never once asked for pity or charity during the course of his battle, and instead, insisted on living his life with his trademark positivity, wit and sense of humor. He even channeled this outlook and energy to his remarkable blog, www.seriouslycancer.com, which served as an outlet for communicating with friends, family and other cancer patients and survivors (or as Mitch would write, in his distinctive voice, “cancer havers”).
The theme of the blog was, again in Mitch’s words, “to share my experience mixed with some wisdom and a bit of sarcasm (that) can help others going through what I’m going through.” It was Mitch’s dream that his words would help cancer-haver’s survive just a little bit longer, and cherish every moment of those days.
Mitch enthused this kind of reflective positivity in to all other aspects of his life as well, from his distinctive sense of style, to his passion for sports, his marketing responsibilities at Everbridge, myriad hobbies (many of which involved country music and beer), and the love of his wife, Sydney, and the rest of his family and friends.
To honor the undeniable impact that Mitch had on the world in his 24 years, and on the team at Everbridge, we are establishing a scholarship fund (The Jeffrey “Mitch” Lortz Scholarship) in his name that will awarded to a student graduate from his hometown high school, Acton Boxborough Regional High School. The student recipient will embody Mitch’s courage and positivity under adversity, as well as possess other traits that defined him, including creativity, a passion and penchant for writing, and a nature defined by strong will, determination, character and sportsmanship.
Please take a moment to honor Mitch and his amazing legacy, and to support the next generation that has the potential to embody his spirit, by contributing to the Mitch Lortz Scholarship fund.
