Hello! Thank you for visiting my GoFunMe page. My name is Debbie Hoffman. Until 2006 I was a pretty carefree Californian who loved her work as an elementary teacher in Los Angeles county.
In July of 2006 I began to experience a burning sensation in both my feet. I also experienced sharp pains, both symptoms being inexplainable. I was eventually diagnosed with Erythromelalgia , a small vessel neuropathy condition.
Fast forward several years and I am now also experiencing the burning in my knees, thighs, face, and ears. There are no words to describe the pain EM causes. I am always trying to ward off infection because the skin on my feet will split open, or just "peel" open. I have several electric fans in my bedroom because I cannot sleep if the feet are flaring up (as in "on fire").
Even in winter (and it is cold where I am) I have to have my feet exposed to the fans...which often keeps me from sleep because my legs get cold! I cannot stay at the homes of friends overnight because "normal temperature settings" on their thermostats make my feet flare and the pain is excruciating.
Doctors have prescribed various sauves and creams, all which are expensive. I use BandAids daily to keep the feet from bleeding on my shoes....which are one kind only, as there is swelling also. In those ensuing years since I have seen countless doctors in Los Angles and even went to Mayo Clinic twice. After dozens of tests all Mayo Clinic was able to offer me was Pain Management classes. I am grateful for those classes, but also desperate to get relief.
I have not been without severe pain since 2006.I still teach, often needing to use a scooter because walking is like the upper body is living on earth, but the feet are submersed in hell. How I miss the younger days when I could was scooter-less! I've taught 25 yrs. and would so like to be able to work many more. That is the reason for this GoFundMe campaign...
I have recently been to Dr. Julian Whitaker's Wellness Clinic in Southern California. I am seeking a more homeopathic/naturalist approach because I am getting no help elsewhere. My insurance covers some of the tests and procedures but many others are extremely expensive. After consulting with the doctors there, I have hope again; something that had eluded me for almost a decade. I am committed to being a patient there, but some of the procedures (that have helped others) cost thousands of dollars.
How much do I need to raise? $25,000 thousand dollars should get me through a major amount of tests/ treatments my doctor wants to do. I have started this GoFundMe campaign because all of my friends and colleagues have seen firsthand the pain I suffer. I am grateful for the love and patience you have had with me. I know you would be thrilled to see me get relief. God bless you as you consider your part in this.
