When TAN-Y-GARTH HALL RETREAT opened in 1972, it became the UK’s first permanent yoga centre. In the fifty odd years since then, many other centres have joined us as the interest in yoga has grown. However, being owned by a registered charity and run by volunteers, we remain one of the few working on a not-for-profit basis. In order to continue our work and ensure the future of the centre, we need your help to fund the next phase of building repairs and restoration of this fabulousl Arts & Crafts listed building. Please contribute if you can and share with others. Every donation and share will help.
Located in Pontfadog near Llangollen in North Wales, our centre is known for its focus on serious, but non-academic study and self-development through retreats in yoga, meditation, Tai Chi, the arts, philosophy and other holistic practices. These are provided at reasonable cost in order to be available to as many people as possible. The building itself is a Grade II listed Arts & Crafts country house set in 10 acres of woodland. The surrounding garden terrace offers commanding views over the Ceriog Valley providing a serene environment for our activities.
However, maintaining such a unique and historic building can be challenging. Over the past six years we have been raising funds in different ways for essential long-term repairs, most particularly replacing all of the leaking lead work on the roof. We have been doing this in phases depending on the availability of resources and necessity brought on by leaks. So far we have replaced about one third of all the lead valleys. We are now raising money to finance the latest phase of repairs including lead work around chimney stacks so that we can keep the rain out of our guest bedrooms.
Thank you in advance for your contribution to this cause. It makes all the difference and means a lot to us and the people that use our centre.
