Support Our School Arts Japan Trip

What is it?

This spring, the Tamalpais High School visual art classes are traveling to Japan for an eleven day, explorative and immersive, art and culture trip. Each day is packed full of trips to museums, temples, historical landmarks, cultural experiences, and hands-on workshops!

Who is involved?

Twenty Juniors and Seniors from Tam's visual arts classes (including ceramics, draw/paint, graphic design, photography, and art history) applied and were accepted to partake in this trip, and throughout the year we are meeting to discuss the trip, partially plan it, perhaps learn some Japanese, and brainstorm ways to raise funds. There are also three visual arts teachers coming, and a guide (Sheri Leigh O'Connor) who specializes in planning art trips for groups traveling to Japan. Other than the people actually going on the trip, our friends and family members are contributing their time, ideas, resources, and money to help ensure this is a smooth and enjoyable experience for all!

What is the cost?

The total estimated cost per person is $5750, not including money for most meals and other shopping desires. Currently there are no scholarships set up for students going on this trip, so the money we have to support it will have to come from our own fundraising. We are working together to create and organize items to sell and places to sell them, get in touch with foundations that have scholarships available, and people like you to support us further! Any and all money we raise will be only used to pay for the costs of us students going on this trip, and the way the money is given out is in a sort of three-tier system. Our first priority are those who are not be able to pay for the trip on their own, next is to help lower the cost for those who can go but for whom it may be a bit of a reach, and lastly we would love to lower the cost equally for all students if possible.
