Trans Women of Color Collective was established in September of 2013 out of a critical need for our community to come together, heal from trauma, celebrate our lives and strategize around the issues that impact our lives. In order to shift paradigms that create revolutionary change we must center healing, restoration, fellowship and action in social justice movement work.
Our efforts foster opportunities for trans people of color to leap into their leadership. Our work facilitates courageous conversations around accountability and solidarity. We understand how structural violence impacts our socio-economic growth and development. Our movement is centered in restorative justice and cooperative economics. We are a grassroots, volunteer led collective of revolutionary freedom fighters.
We must center healing, restoration, fellowship and action in social justice movements in order to shift paradigms that create revolutionary change.
In October we held our #BlackTransRevolution leadership Summit. Our fundraising efforts brought 25 trans and gender non-conforming youth of color from all over the country to Pittsburgh for 4 days of healing, restoration, fellowship and action. We had the amazing opportunity to engage leadership development, team building, peer mentorship and writing and healing sessions that encouraged our youth to leap into their destiny as thought leaders and organizers of revolutionary change. The curriculum development and implamentation, the funding model and strategic planning was all led, guided and centered around the lived experiences, leadership and narratives of trans and gender non-conforming people of color!
THIS IS WHAT SOLIDARITY LOOK LIKE WHEN OUR MOVEMENT IS FUNDED!
