A raíz de unas catastróficas explosiones ocurridas el 7 de marzo de 2021 en Bata, ciudad más poblada de Guinea Ecuatorial, el país entero se encuentra devastado, y en particular, las personas directamente afectadas, que lo han perdido todo y están viviendo en unas condiciones jamás imaginadas.
Fuentes oficiales señalan una negligencia militar, asegurando que una quema de fincas cerca de la zona dio lugar a la detonación de dinamita y otros explosivos, custodiados de manera cuestionable en la base de concentración militar. Pero hasta la actualidad no existe una causa fundamentada sobre este suceso.
La incertidumbre de la población, sumada a las deficiencias del sistema, nos empujan a tomar las riendas y mover los recursos con los que contamos para cubrir las necesidades urgentes e imprescindibles de nuestros hermanos y hermanas de Bata.
Las consecuencias de los acontecimientos en Bata van a durar tiempo. Queremos participar en la creación de una forma organizada de manejar la situación en ambos lados (Bata y en la diáspora).
Para ello nos estamos reuniendo con diferentes entidades para trabajar juntos en la creación de una vía la cual permita que las donaciones lleguen a su destino.
Estamos planteando una estructura de cooperación en la que podamos tener garantía de entrega de las donaciones que se realizan desde España a las personas correspondientes. Por tal motivo, hacemos este llamado a toda persona física o entidad jurídica, dentro y fuera de la diáspora a la colaboración voluntaria en la medida de las posibilidades que cada una pueda ofrecer.
Principalmente buscamos cubrir las carencias básicas (alimentación, ropa, higiene...) que en el corto plazo están siendo suplidas pero sabemos que van a permanecer durante un tiempo indeterminado.
Hemos pensado en soluciones para las siguientes dificultades:
Logística.
Envío de dinero.
Identificación de personas afectadas.
Mala distribución de las donaciones.
Tarifas o dificultades en las vías de acceso al país.
Las entidades con las que hemos hablado tienen soluciones para todos estos problemas, solo queda unirse y trabajar coordinadamente para asegurarnos de que somos eficientes a la hora de encontrar soluciones.
Hemos identificado las siguientes iniciativas que podrían ayudarnos a organizarnos de una forma más efectiva.
Creación de una base de datos.
-de asociaciones
-de personas afectadas.
-de inventario.
-de compañías que pueden ayudar con el transporte de forma gratuita.
-de puntos de recogida.
Sincronización entre Bata y la diáspora.
Un servicio de compra y envío de material en Bata (esto evita la necesidad de tener que enviar las donaciones físicamente).
Una compañía que ayude con el envío de dinero.
Una coordinación de todas las personas voluntarias que lo hacen de forma individual o mediante una asociación.
Fijar puntos de envío (ya sean compañías/organizaciones que lo hagan gratuitamente o por pago).
Identificación de Crowdfundings (para poder coordinar el envío de capital y hacerlo de una forma coordinada)
African Projects cree que somos más que capaces de hacer esto como comunidad y que tenemos suficientes personas con la experiencia necesaria para llevar esto a acabo.
Por eso hemos decidido unirnos a un grupo de WhatsApp el cual tiene como objetivo encontrar soluciones a todos los problemas que hemos mencionado anteriormente.
Animamos a otras asociaciones a unirse y a crear un mecanismo el cual nos permita ayudar a las personas de Bata de una forma efectiva.
A continuación incluimos información detallada sobre lo que se ha estado haciendo hasta ahora y cuales son nuestros objetivos de futuro.
¿Cómo ha actuado la diáspora?
La diáspora desde diferentes puntos del mundo se ha estado movilizando más que nunca, pues este es un suceso que nos ha dolido a todos/as y en el que nuestra única intención es ayudar de la forma más eficaz, rápida y transparente.
En España, han habido cientos de iniciativas por diferentes personas para poder obtener fondos y donaciones de todo tipo y enviarlas de alguna forma a las personas afectadas en Bata.
Asimismo, se han creado rutas de envío, que han ayudado a enviar un pequeño porcentaje de todas las donaciones que se han obtenido.
Por su parte, la Asociación Estudiantil Ecuatoguineana (ASEE), ha puesto a disposición del público viviendas pertenecientes a sus miembros para recibir y almacenar donaciones. Gracias a esta iniciativa han conseguido facilitar el envío y el almacenamiento de donaciones por toda España. Actualmente siguen con su campaña en redes sociales y en campus universitarios.
Por ejemplo, el pasado Jueves 18 de Marzo, se creó un punto de recogida en la Universidad Rey Juan Carlos (campus de Fuenlabrada). La asociación ASEE junto a otros grupos dentro de la universidad pedirán ayuda por parte de los estudiantes para obtener más donaciones.
African Projects, se ha comprometido a crear una ruta segura, transparente y de larga duración para el envío de donaciones a Guinea Ecuatorial. A través de las redes sociales y usando su directorio de profesionales B-Professional, se han encargado de sensibilizar a la comunidad africana/afrodescendiente en España a fin de movilizar todos los recursos a su disposición y ayudar en esta causa.
Ambas asociaciones hemos decidido unir esfuerzos con ASEE y African Projects para poder alcanzar nuestros objetivos principales, que son:
Sensibilizar a la diáspora en diferentes países del mundo.
Hacer entender la importancia de la unión y cooperación en esta crisis humanitaria.
Facilitar puntos de recogida y puntos de envío, para asegurar que las donaciones llegan a su destino.
Implementar la transparencia en todos nuestros procesos y en todas nuestras etapas. Somos una fundación sin ánimo de lucro, por lo cual todas las donaciones irán destinadas a la financiación de la logística (para la colecta y envío) y necesidades de las personas afectadas.
Asegurar medios para el envío de las donaciones, ya sean estos transporte marítimo o aéreo.
Crear una ruta independiente la cual asegure que las donaciones llegan a las personas que las necesitan.
Junto a la Fundación Mujer Bantú ayudar a crear un comedor social, el cual podrá proveer desayuno, comida, y cena a las personas más afectadas.
Hacer de esta iniciativa algo permanente que no solo ayude a Guinea Ecuatorial, sino a cualquier otro país del continente Africano que pase por una crisis humanitaria.
¿Cuáles son las soluciones que proponemos?
Necesitamos del apoyo de todas las personas que lean sobre esta iniciativa, entendemos que si la estás leyendo es porque alguien al que conoces o aprecias ha decidido compartirlo contigo.
Con tu contribución podremos encontrar soluciones a los problemas previamente mencionados y podremos asegurarnos de que las donaciones de miles de personas no se quedan estancadas en los puntos de recogida.
Sabemos que es difícil confiar en algo desconocido y entendemos a las personas que puedan tener dudas sobre nuestra causa y cómo queremos utilizar las donaciones. Por eso estamos trabajando duramente para asegurarnos de que lo siguiente se cumple:
Máxima transparencia - Haciendo uso de la plataforma CrowdFunding nos aseguramos de que el uso de las donaciones es supervisada por la misma plataforma. Estamos creando nuestra propia plataforma en la que estaremos publicando recibos de todos los gastos que hagamos. También utilizaremos esta plataforma para compartir actualizaciones sobre todo lo que estamos haciendo. Aseguramos máxima transparencia a los donantes desde la recogida de las donaciones, hasta su llegada a las personas más necesitadas.
Organización y coordinación - Junto a ASEE estamos preparando la logística y la organización necesaria para asegurarnos de que todo lo acordado se cumple.
Uso responsable de las donaciones - Nos queremos asegurar de que los recursos llegan a las personas necesitadas, para ello hemos decidido hacer uso de la tecnología para mantener un control sobre esto. Tendremos un equipo de personas en España y otro en Bata que se encargarán de mantener orden y organización en los puntos de recogida y en el comedor al cual atenderán cientos de personas diariamente. También estamos creando un inventario que incluirá todos los materiales que se utilizarán, esto incluye la comida que se cocinará en el comedor. Estaremos llevando a cabo análisis para asegurarnos de que los servicios que proponemos funcionen de una forma eficiente y que ayuden a un gran porcentaje de las personas necesitadas.
¿Cuál es la ruta que proponemos?
Hemos tenido una serie de reuniones con diferentes asociaciones y compañías que se encuentran en España y en Guinea Ecuatorial. Tras estas reuniones nos hemos dado cuenta de que existen suficientes recursos para crear una ruta de envío de donaciones de una forma independiente y de poco coste. A continuación hemos incluido un esquema que explica el camino por el cual pasarían las donaciones desde el donante en la diáspora a la persona necesitada en Bata.
Ruta de donaciones
Donaciones desde diferentes puntos de la diáspora.
-Se han puesto a disposición viviendas de individuos y puntos de recogida en lugares públicos o cerca de instituciones. Estos puntos se publican en las redes sociales y las páginas webs de ASEE y African Projects. Los donantes podrán comunicarse de forma directa con una de las dos asociaciones por si tienen algún problema o duda. Estamos colaborando con más asociaciones que están prestando este mismo servicio, la idea es tener una gran cantidad de puntos de recogida para que los donantes no tengan que viajar largas distancias.
Una vez recibidas las donaciones se almacenarán en las viviendas de nuestros voluntarios.
Puntos de envío/Exportación
-Hay un número de compañías que se han dispuesto a ayudar con el envío de donaciones a Bata de forma gratuita, estas son compañías que operan en el país y tienen la logística necesaria para llevar estas donaciones de forma gratuita.
Entre ellas están: Zazu Logistics, Imagesa, Martínez Hermanos, DHL.
Intentamos usar esta vía ya que estas compañías tienen preferencia en la aduana y muchas de ellas tienen sus propios almacenes en los puertos.
En caso de que no se pueda enviar por estas empresas, se pensara en pagar el envío con las donaciones recibidas. El precio estándar de envío de un contenedor es de 4.200 euros por 40 toneladas. Las donaciones tardarían 4 semanas en llegar a su destinación. Intentamos evitar esta vía ya que supone controles en la aduana los cuales podrían retrasar el proceso.
Las donaciones que se almacenan en la casa de los voluntarios serían recogidas y llevadas a este punto de encuentro por personas que están dispuestas a prestar esta ayuda. En caso de que las personas no tengan vehículos, se utilizará el dinero de las donaciones para el alquiler de un vehículo de gran capacidad para poder recoger todas las donaciones en un solo dia. Tras la recogida las donaciones irán a los puntos de exportación.
Nos comunicaremos de forma periódica, con las personas encargadas de recibir las donaciones en estas empresas para asegurarnos de que siguen prestando estos servicios.
Llegada a Bata
-Una vez recibidos los donativos en Bata, tendríamos a un equipo de voluntarios que se encargaría del transporte de estos a sus almacenes. Esta labor se llevaría a cabo por asociaciones con las que colaboramos.
Entre ellas están: ASDEG, IKABA, FUNDACION MUJER BANTU
Administración y distribución
-Haciendo uso de la tecnología, mantenemos un control de stock el cual se administra desde España. Las asociaciones participantes nos enviarán un reporte que contenga su inventario, este reporte será detallado y reflejará cada uno de los artículos.
-La asociación IKABA se ha encargado de crear una lista con las personas que han sido afectadas. Gracias a su eficacia sobre el terreno han conseguido contactar con las personas que se situaban en el epicentro de la explosión y aquellas que están a sus alrededores. La asociación IKABA tiene información sobre las personas que requieren ayuda y de qué tipo de ayuda requieren. Esta información nos permite distribuir las donaciones de una forma eficiente, evitando el desperdicio o el abuso de estas.
Continuidad con el apoyo
-Entendemos que los efectos más devastadores aún están por llegar, las personas que se han quedado sin hogar y huyeron a las zonas rurales, están volviendo a la ciudad y muchas con heridas graves. Estas heridas son tanto físicas como psicológicas. Muchas de ellas no tienen el dinero suficiente para comprar comida o permitirse el coste de ser atendido en un hospital.
Para abastecer estas necesidades, estamos cooperando con la Fundación Mujer Bantú, y queremos ayudar a crear, administrar y organizar un comedor social.
Los suministros de este comedor social vendrán directamente de los supermercados y vendedores locales. Haciendo uso de las donaciones mediante Crowdfunding podremos hacer compras online mediante Situcka y hacer el envío de estos alimentos y materiales directamente a la panadería. Situcka se ha comprometido a hacer estos envíos de forma gratuita, African Projects solo tendría que hacer la compra online (mediante su página web la cual refleja el coste de los productos) y Situcka se encargaría de hacer los envíos a las direcciones proveídas.
El comedor se abrirá a diario y dará comida preparada a las personas más necesitadas. Junto a la fundación Mujer Bantú nos aseguraremos de que las personas que aparecen en las listas son las que pueden acudir a este comedor, se seguirá haciendo escaneos de la zona para identificar a más personas que han sido afectadas pero que aún no forman parte de esta lista.
¿Por qué nuestra iniciativa es importante?
Los habitantes de las zonas afectadas buscan claridad y orden al igual que los buscan los donantes. Por eso hemos decidido crear esta iniciativa y asegurarnos de que esto se cumple.
¿Por qué hacemos esto?
Este suceso nos ha afectado mucho y sabemos que ha afectado mucho más a las personas que hoy se encuentran sin techo, sin comida, y sin sus seres queridos. Nos encontramos en una posición privilegiada si nos comparamos con las personas afectadas. Aun así, hemos decidido no dar la espalda a las personas que necesitan nuestro apoyo ahora más que nunca. La tecnología móvil y las redes sociales nos han hecho llegar imágenes devastadoras de lugares que muchos/as de nosotros/as conocemos y a pesar de que no estamos allí físicamente, lo estamos espiritualmente. Nuestros corazones laten más fuerte que nunca y piden una solución inmediata a este problema, por eso hemos decidido iniciar este proyecto y asegurarnos de que plantamos nuestra pequeña semilla en una situación la cual requiere miles de semillas más. Por ello contamos también con vuestro apoyo, quizás no nos conozcas o no conozcas a las personas afectadas, pero sabemos que muchos de los que leáis esto estáis conmocionados al igual que nosotros y queréis ayudar de alguna forma. Vuestra aportación financiera nos ayudará a nosotros/as al igual que a vosotros/as y juntos lograremos proveer amor, cariño, dedicación y apoyo a los ciudadanos de Bata.

Nuestros planes de futuro
¡No pensamos parar aquí!
Queremos que esta estructura que estamos creando perdure y que sirva como ayuda a otros países. Una vez logrados nuestros objetivos en Bata, queremos crear un fondo de emergencia el cual se utilizará para facilitar las donaciones y el transporte de éstas en cualquier país del continente africano. HUMANITARIAN AID TO BATA
The people of Bata are devastated, following a series of catastrophic explosions on the 7th of March 2021.
The explosions led to the destruction of the surrounding infrastructure and the displacement of hundreds of people.
Many of the affected individuals fled to the rural areas under serious traumatisation and they are now returning to the places where they used to live.
The explosions left many individuals with wounds not only on their bodies but also in their minds. Such an event is not easy to forget as many are now suffering the consequences of losing their house, losing their family members and not having anywhere to go.
Equatorial Guinea is a small country in West Africa with a total population of 1.3 million people, Bata has a total of 250.000* habitants. The death toll of the explosion is 105 people and the total number of affected people is 615. These figures increase every day as there are many destroyed buildings that are not cleared yet.
There is uncertainty regarding the cause of the bombs, some sources point at government negligence and poor stocking conditions. Other sources believe that bush fires were the real cause of the explosions.
The consequences of the events in Bata are going to last for a long time and we do want to participate in the creation of an organized structure to help to handle the situation on both sides (Bata and in the diaspora).
There has been support from people in different parts of the globe including governments, companies, organisations and individuals. Each has contributed what they could to the cause. Those with more resources managed to ship their donation directly to Bata and these are now with the people in need.
As we mentioned above, the entities with the money and logistics to send their goods directly to Bata managed to provide support days after the events. However, there are a lot of initiatives from students, young people, organisations, and concerned citizens from western countries that are facing a number of difficulties.
There is a large diaspora population in Spain, and many people that come from different African countries are sympathising with the cause. Many of these individuals and organisations are stocking their donations at houses provided by volunteers and they are unable to find a free, secure, and transparent way to send their donations to Bata.
We are proposing the creation of a “Route”, which will be a structure through which we can guarantee the delivery of donations from Spain to Bata.
For this reason, we made a call to any individual or organisation, inside and outside the diaspora to collaborate voluntarily to the extent of the possibilities that each one can offer. We need your support to find a solution to all the problems we are facing and to accelerate the shipping of your donations to Bata.
We did identify the following difficulties that many are facing at the moment:
Logistics and the movements of donations within the country.
Shipping of donations to Bata.
Sending money.
Identification of affected people.
Poor distribution of donations.
Tariffs on exports.
The entities we have spoken to have solutions to all these problems, it only remains to come together and work in coordination to ensure that we are efficient in finding and implementing solutions.
We have identified the following initiatives that could help us organize ourselves more effectively.
Creation of a database.
-of associations
-of affected people.
-inventory.
-Of companies that can help with transport free of charge.
-Of collection points.
Synchronization between Bata and the diaspora.
A buying and shipping service for material in Bata (this avoids the need to have to send donations physically).
A company to help with the remittance of money.
Coordination of all the volunteers that are helping on an individual basis or through an association.
Setting up export points (either companies/organizations that do it for free or for a fee).
Identification of Crowdfundings (to be able to coordinate the remittance of capital in a coordinated way).
We believe that the diaspora is more than capable of doing this as a community and that we have enough people with the necessary experience to pull this off.
That is why we have decided to unite all the organisations and individuals that are involved in a whatsapp group. The aim of this group is to find solutions to all the problems we have mentioned above.
We provided below detailed information on what we have been doing so far and what our future goals are.
How has the diaspora acted?
The diaspora from different parts of the world has been mobilizing more than ever, because this is an event that has hurt us all and our only intention is to help in the most effective, fast and transparent way.
In Spain, there have been hundreds of initiatives by different people to raise funds and donations of all kinds and send them in some way to the people affected in Bata.
Likewise, shipping routes have been created, which have helped to send a small percentage of all the donations that have been obtained.
For its part, the Association of Ecuadorean-Guinean Students (ASEE) has made homes belonging to its members available to receive and store donations. Thanks to this initiative, they have managed to facilitate the shipment and storage of donations throughout Spain. They are currently continuing their campaign in social media and on university campuses.
For example,on Thursday, March 18, a collection point was set up at the Rey Juan Carlos University (Fuenlabrada campus). The ASEE association along with other groups within the university did ask for help from students to get more donations.
African Projects, has committed to creating a safe, transparent and long-term route for sending donations to Equatorial Guinea. Through social networks and using their directory of professionals B-Professional, they have been in charge of sensitizing the African/African descent community in Spain in order to mobilize all the resources at their disposal and help in this cause.
We have decided to join forces with other organisations in order to achieve our main objectives, which are:
-To raise awareness among the diaspora in different countries around the world.
-To make people understand the importance of union and cooperation in this humanitarian crisis.
-Facilitate collection points and shipping points, to ensure that donations reach their destination.
-Implement transparency in all our processes and at all our stages. We are a non-profit foundation, so all donations will go to finance the logistics (for collection and shipping) and the needs of the affected people.
-Ensure means for the shipment of donations, either by sea or air transport.
-Create an independent route to ensure that the donations reach the people who need them.
-Together with the Mujer Bantu Foundation help in the creation of a soup kitchen, which can provide breakfast, lunch, and dinner to the most affected people.
-To make this initiative a permanent one that will not only help Equatorial Guinea, but any other country in the African continent going through a humanitarian crisis.
What are the solutions we propose?
We need the support of everyone who reads about this initiative, we understand that if you are reading it is because someone you know or appreciate has decided to share it with you.
With your contribution, we will be able to find solutions to the problems previously mentioned and we will be able to make sure that the donations of thousands of people do not remain stagnant in the collection points.
We know that it is difficult to trust something unknown and we understand people who may have doubts about our cause and how we want to use the donations. That's why we are working hard to make sure the following is followed through:
Maximum transparency - By making use of the CrowdFunding platform we ensure that the use of donations is monitored by the platform itself. We are creating our own platform where we will be posting receipts for all the expenses we make. We will also use this platform to share updates on everything we are doing. We ensure maximum transparency to donors from the collection of donations to their arrival to the people most in need.
Organization and coordination - Together with ASEE we are preparing the logistics and organization necessary to ensure that everything agreed upon is fulfilled.
Responsible use of donations - We want to make sure that the resources reach the people in need, so we have decided to make use of technology to keep track of this. We will have a team of people in Spain and another in Bata who will be in charge of maintaining order and organization at the collection points and in the canteen which will serve hundreds of people daily. We are also creating an inventory that will include all the materials that will be used, including the food that will be cooked in the canteen. We will be conducting analyses to make sure that the services we propose will work efficiently and help a large percentage of the people in need.
What is the route we propose?
We have had a series of meetings with different associations and companies in Spain and Equatorial Guinea. After these meetings, we have realized that there are enough resources to create a route to send donations in an independent and low-cost way. Below we have included a diagram that explains the path through which the donations would pass from the donor in the diaspora to the person in need in Bata.
Donation route
Donations from different parts of the diaspora.
Individuals' homes and collection points in public places or near institutions have been made available. These points are published on social networks and the websites of ASEE and African Projects. Donors will be able to communicate directly with one of the two associations in case they have any problems or questions. We are collaborating with more associations that are providing this same service, the idea is to have a large number of collection points so that donors do not have to travel long distances.
Once the donations are received, they will be stored in the homes of our volunteers.
Shipping/Export Points
There are a number of companies that have been willing to help with the shipping of donations to Bata free of charge, these are companies that operate in the country and have the necessary logistics to get these donations to Bata free of charge.
Among them are Zazu Logistics, Imagesa, Martinez Hermanos, DHL.
We try to use this route since these companies have a preference in customs and many of them have their own warehouses in the ports.
If it is not possible to ship via these companies, we will consider paying for the shipment with the donations received. The standard shipping price for a container is 4,200 euros for 40 tons. Donations would take 4 weeks to reach their destination. We try to avoid this route as it involves customs controls which could delay the process.
The donations that are stored in the volunteers' house would be collected and brought to this meeting point by people who are willing to help. In case people do not have vehicles, the money from the donations would be used to rent a large capacity vehicle to collect all the donations in one day. After the collection, the donations would go to the export points.
We will communicate periodically with the people in charge of receiving the donations in these companies to make sure that they continue to provide these services.
Arrival at Bata
Once the donations are received at Bata, we will have a team of volunteers who will be in charge of transporting them to their warehouses. This work would be carried out by associations with which we collaborate.

Administration and distribution
Using technology, we maintain a stock control which is administered from Spain. The participating associations will send us a report containing their inventory, this report will be detailed and will reflect each of the received and available items.
The association IKABA has been in charge of creating a list of the people who have been affected. Thanks to their efficiency on the ground, they have managed to contact the people who were at the epicentre of the explosion and those who are in the vicinity. The association IKABA have information about the people who need help and what kind of help they need. This information allows us to distribute the donations in an efficient way, avoiding waste or abuse.
Continued support
We understand that the most devastating effects are yet to come, people who have become homeless and fled to rural areas are returning to the city and many with serious injuries. These injuries are both physical and psychological. Many of them do not have enough money to buy food or afford the cost of hospital care.
To supply these needs, we are cooperating with the Bantu Women's Foundation, and want to help create, manage and organize a soup kitchen.
The supplies for this soup kitchen will come directly from local supermarkets and vendors. By making use of Crowdfunding donations we will be able to make online purchases through Situcka and have these food and materials shipped directly to the bakery. Situcka has committed to make these shipments free of charge, African Projects would only have to make the purchase online (through its website which reflects the cost of the products) and Situcka would be responsible for making the shipments to the provided addresses .
The canteen will be open daily and will give prepared food to the most needy people. Together with the association [...] we will make sure that the people who appear on the lists are the ones who can come to this canteen, we will continue to make scans of the area to identify more people who have been affected but are not yet on this list.
Why is our initiative important?
The inhabitants of the affected areas are looking for clarity and order just as much as the donors are looking for the exact same things. That is why we have decided to create this initiative and make sure that this is achieved.
Why are we doing this?
This event has affected us greatly and we know that it has affected the people who are now without shelter, without food, and without their loved ones even more. We are in a privileged position compared to the affected people .
Still, we have decided not to turn our backs on the people who need our support now more than ever. Mobile technology and social media have brought us devastating images from places many of us know, and although we are not there physically, we are there spiritually.
Our hearts are beating stronger than ever and calling for an immediate solution to this problem, so we have decided to start this project and make sure that we plant our small seed in a situation that requires thousands more seeds. That is why we also count on your support, maybe you don't know us or the people affected, but we know that many of you reading this are as shocked as we are and want to help in some way.

ASEE y African Projects
A raíz de unas catastróficas explosiones ocurridas el 7 de marzo de 2021 en Bata, ciudad más poblada de Guinea Ecuatorial, el país entero se encuentra devastado, y en particular, las personas directamente afectadas, que lo han perdido todo y están viviendo en unas condiciones jamás imaginadas.
Fuentes oficiales señalan una negligencia militar, asegurando que una quema de fincas cerca de la zona dio lugar a la detonación de dinamita y otros explosivos, custodiados de manera cuestionable en la base de concentración militar. Pero hasta la actualidad no existe una causa fundamentada sobre este suceso.
La incertidumbre de la población, sumada a las deficiencias del sistema, nos empujan a tomar las riendas y mover los recursos con los que contamos para cubrir las necesidades urgentes e imprescindibles de nuestros hermanos y hermanas de Bata.
Las consecuencias de los acontecimientos en Bata van a durar tiempo. Queremos participar en la creación de una forma organizada de manejar la situación en ambos lados (Bata y en la diáspora).
Para ello nos estamos reuniendo con diferentes entidades para trabajar juntos en la creación de una vía la cual permita que las donaciones lleguen a su destino.
Estamos planteando una estructura de cooperación en la que podamos tener garantía de entrega de las donaciones que se realizan desde España a las personas correspondientes. Por tal motivo, hacemos este llamado a toda persona física o entidad jurídica, dentro y fuera de la diáspora a la colaboración voluntaria en la medida de las posibilidades que cada una pueda ofrecer.
Principalmente buscamos cubrir las carencias básicas (alimentación, ropa, higiene...) que en el corto plazo están siendo suplidas pero sabemos que van a permanecer durante un tiempo indeterminado.
Hemos pensado en soluciones para las siguientes dificultades:
Logística.
Envío de dinero.
Identificación de personas afectadas.
Mala distribución de las donaciones.
Tarifas o dificultades en las vías de acceso al país.
Las entidades con las que hemos hablado tienen soluciones para todos estos problemas, solo queda unirse y trabajar coordinadamente para asegurarnos de que somos eficientes a la hora de encontrar soluciones.
Hemos identificado las siguientes iniciativas que podrían ayudarnos a organizarnos de una forma más efectiva.
Creación de una base de datos.
-de asociaciones
-de personas afectadas.
-de inventario.
-de compañías que pueden ayudar con el transporte de forma gratuita.
-de puntos de recogida.
Sincronización entre Bata y la diáspora.
Un servicio de compra y envío de material en Bata (esto evita la necesidad de tener que enviar las donaciones físicamente).
Una compañía que ayude con el envío de dinero.
Una coordinación de todas las personas voluntarias que lo hacen de forma individual o mediante una asociación.
Fijar puntos de envío (ya sean compañías/organizaciones que lo hagan gratuitamente o por pago).
Identificación de Crowdfundings (para poder coordinar el envío de capital y hacerlo de una forma coordinada)
African Projects cree que somos más que capaces de hacer esto como comunidad y que tenemos suficientes personas con la experiencia necesaria para llevar esto a acabo.
Por eso hemos decidido unirnos a un grupo de WhatsApp el cual tiene como objetivo encontrar soluciones a todos los problemas que hemos mencionado anteriormente.
Animamos a otras asociaciones a unirse y a crear un mecanismo el cual nos permita ayudar a las personas de Bata de una forma efectiva.
A continuación incluimos información detallada sobre lo que se ha estado haciendo hasta ahora y cuales son nuestros objetivos de futuro.
¿Cómo ha actuado la diáspora?
La diáspora desde diferentes puntos del mundo se ha estado movilizando más que nunca, pues este es un suceso que nos ha dolido a todos/as y en el que nuestra única intención es ayudar de la forma más eficaz, rápida y transparente.
En España, han habido cientos de iniciativas por diferentes personas para poder obtener fondos y donaciones de todo tipo y enviarlas de alguna forma a las personas afectadas en Bata.
Asimismo, se han creado rutas de envío, que han ayudado a enviar un pequeño porcentaje de todas las donaciones que se han obtenido.
Por su parte, la Asociación Estudiantil Ecuatoguineana (ASEE), ha puesto a disposición del público viviendas pertenecientes a sus miembros para recibir y almacenar donaciones. Gracias a esta iniciativa han conseguido facilitar el envío y el almacenamiento de donaciones por toda España. Actualmente siguen con su campaña en redes sociales y en campus universitarios.
Por ejemplo, el pasado Jueves 18 de Marzo, se creó un punto de recogida en la Universidad Rey Juan Carlos (campus de Fuenlabrada). La asociación ASEE junto a otros grupos dentro de la universidad pedirán ayuda por parte de los estudiantes para obtener más donaciones.
African Projects, se ha comprometido a crear una ruta segura, transparente y de larga duración para el envío de donaciones a Guinea Ecuatorial. A través de las redes sociales y usando su directorio de profesionales B-Professional, se han encargado de sensibilizar a la comunidad africana/afrodescendiente en España a fin de movilizar todos los recursos a su disposición y ayudar en esta causa.
Ambas asociaciones hemos decidido unir esfuerzos con ASEE y African Projects para poder alcanzar nuestros objetivos principales, que son:
Sensibilizar a la diáspora en diferentes países del mundo.
Hacer entender la importancia de la unión y cooperación en esta crisis humanitaria.
Facilitar puntos de recogida y puntos de envío, para asegurar que las donaciones llegan a su destino.
Implementar la transparencia en todos nuestros procesos y en todas nuestras etapas. Somos una fundación sin ánimo de lucro, por lo cual todas las donaciones irán destinadas a la financiación de la logística (para la colecta y envío) y necesidades de las personas afectadas.
Asegurar medios para el envío de las donaciones, ya sean estos transporte marítimo o aéreo.
Crear una ruta independiente la cual asegure que las donaciones llegan a las personas que las necesitan.
Junto a la Fundación Mujer Bantú ayudar a crear un comedor social, el cual podrá proveer desayuno, comida, y cena a las personas más afectadas.
Hacer de esta iniciativa algo permanente que no solo ayude a Guinea Ecuatorial, sino a cualquier otro país del continente Africano que pase por una crisis humanitaria.
¿Cuáles son las soluciones que proponemos?
Necesitamos del apoyo de todas las personas que lean sobre esta iniciativa, entendemos que si la estás leyendo es porque alguien al que conoces o aprecias ha decidido compartirlo contigo.
Con tu contribución podremos encontrar soluciones a los problemas previamente mencionados y podremos asegurarnos de que las donaciones de miles de personas no se quedan estancadas en los puntos de recogida.
Sabemos que es difícil confiar en algo desconocido y entendemos a las personas que puedan tener dudas sobre nuestra causa y cómo queremos utilizar las donaciones. Por eso estamos trabajando duramente para asegurarnos de que lo siguiente se cumple:
Máxima transparencia - Haciendo uso de la plataforma CrowdFunding nos aseguramos de que el uso de las donaciones es supervisada por la misma plataforma. Estamos creando nuestra propia plataforma en la que estaremos publicando recibos de todos los gastos que hagamos. También utilizaremos esta plataforma para compartir actualizaciones sobre todo lo que estamos haciendo. Aseguramos máxima transparencia a los donantes desde la recogida de las donaciones, hasta su llegada a las personas más necesitadas.
Organización y coordinación - Junto a ASEE estamos preparando la logística y la organización necesaria para asegurarnos de que todo lo acordado se cumple.
Uso responsable de las donaciones - Nos queremos asegurar de que los recursos llegan a las personas necesitadas, para ello hemos decidido hacer uso de la tecnología para mantener un control sobre esto. Tendremos un equipo de personas en España y otro en Bata que se encargarán de mantener orden y organización en los puntos de recogida y en el comedor al cual atenderán cientos de personas diariamente. También estamos creando un inventario que incluirá todos los materiales que se utilizarán, esto incluye la comida que se cocinará en el comedor. Estaremos llevando a cabo análisis para asegurarnos de que los servicios que proponemos funcionen de una forma eficiente y que ayuden a un gran porcentaje de las personas necesitadas.
¿Cuál es la ruta que proponemos?
Hemos tenido una serie de reuniones con diferentes asociaciones y compañías que se encuentran en España y en Guinea Ecuatorial. Tras estas reuniones nos hemos dado cuenta de que existen suficientes recursos para crear una ruta de envío de donaciones de una forma independiente y de poco coste. A continuación hemos incluido un esquema que explica el camino por el cual pasarían las donaciones desde el donante en la diáspora a la persona necesitada en Bata.
Ruta de donaciones
Donaciones desde diferentes puntos de la diáspora.
-Se han puesto a disposición viviendas de individuos y puntos de recogida en lugares públicos o cerca de instituciones. Estos puntos se publican en las redes sociales y las páginas webs de ASEE y African Projects. Los donantes podrán comunicarse de forma directa con una de las dos asociaciones por si tienen algún problema o duda. Estamos colaborando con más asociaciones que están prestando este mismo servicio, la idea es tener una gran cantidad de puntos de recogida para que los donantes no tengan que viajar largas distancias.
Una vez recibidas las donaciones se almacenarán en las viviendas de nuestros voluntarios.
Puntos de envío/Exportación
-Hay un número de compañías que se han dispuesto a ayudar con el envío de donaciones a Bata de forma gratuita, estas son compañías que operan en el país y tienen la logística necesaria para llevar estas donaciones de forma gratuita.
Entre ellas están: Zazu Logistics, Imagesa, Martínez Hermanos, DHL.
Intentamos usar esta vía ya que estas compañías tienen preferencia en la aduana y muchas de ellas tienen sus propios almacenes en los puertos.
En caso de que no se pueda enviar por estas empresas, se pensara en pagar el envío con las donaciones recibidas. El precio estándar de envío de un contenedor es de 4.200 euros por 40 toneladas. Las donaciones tardarían 4 semanas en llegar a su destinación. Intentamos evitar esta vía ya que supone controles en la aduana los cuales podrían retrasar el proceso.
Las donaciones que se almacenan en la casa de los voluntarios serían recogidas y llevadas a este punto de encuentro por personas que están dispuestas a prestar esta ayuda. En caso de que las personas no tengan vehículos, se utilizará el dinero de las donaciones para el alquiler de un vehículo de gran capacidad para poder recoger todas las donaciones en un solo dia. Tras la recogida las donaciones irán a los puntos de exportación.
Nos comunicaremos de forma periódica, con las personas encargadas de recibir las donaciones en estas empresas para asegurarnos de que siguen prestando estos servicios.
Llegada a Bata
-Una vez recibidos los donativos en Bata, tendríamos a un equipo de voluntarios que se encargaría del transporte de estos a sus almacenes. Esta labor se llevaría a cabo por asociaciones con las que colaboramos.
Entre ellas están: ASDEG, IKABA, FUNDACION MUJER BANTU
Administración y distribución
-Haciendo uso de la tecnología, mantenemos un control de stock el cual se administra desde España. Las asociaciones participantes nos enviarán un reporte que contenga su inventario, este reporte será detallado y reflejará cada uno de los artículos.
-La asociación IKABA se ha encargado de crear una lista con las personas que han sido afectadas. Gracias a su eficacia sobre el terreno han conseguido contactar con las personas que se situaban en el epicentro de la explosión y aquellas que están a sus alrededores. La asociación IKABA tiene información sobre las personas que requieren ayuda y de qué tipo de ayuda requieren. Esta información nos permite distribuir las donaciones de una forma eficiente, evitando el desperdicio o el abuso de estas.
Continuidad con el apoyo
-Entendemos que los efectos más devastadores aún están por llegar, las personas que se han quedado sin hogar y huyeron a las zonas rurales, están volviendo a la ciudad y muchas con heridas graves. Estas heridas son tanto físicas como psicológicas. Muchas de ellas no tienen el dinero suficiente para comprar comida o permitirse el coste de ser atendido en un hospital.
Para abastecer estas necesidades, estamos cooperando con la Fundación Mujer Bantú, y queremos ayudar a crear, administrar y organizar un comedor social.
Los suministros de este comedor social vendrán directamente de los supermercados y vendedores locales. Haciendo uso de las donaciones mediante Crowdfunding podremos hacer compras online mediante Situcka y hacer el envío de estos alimentos y materiales directamente a la panadería. Situcka se ha comprometido a hacer estos envíos de forma gratuita, African Projects solo tendría que hacer la compra online (mediante su página web la cual refleja el coste de los productos) y Situcka se encargaría de hacer los envíos a las direcciones proveídas.
El comedor se abrirá a diario y dará comida preparada a las personas más necesitadas. Junto a la fundación Mujer Bantú nos aseguraremos de que las personas que aparecen en las listas son las que pueden acudir a este comedor, se seguirá haciendo escaneos de la zona para identificar a más personas que han sido afectadas pero que aún no forman parte de esta lista.
¿Por qué nuestra iniciativa es importante?
Los habitantes de las zonas afectadas buscan claridad y orden al igual que los buscan los donantes. Por eso hemos decidido crear esta iniciativa y asegurarnos de que esto se cumple.
¿Por qué hacemos esto?
Este suceso nos ha afectado mucho y sabemos que ha afectado mucho más a las personas que hoy se encuentran sin techo, sin comida, y sin sus seres queridos. Nos encontramos en una posición privilegiada si nos comparamos con las personas afectadas. Aun así, hemos decidido no dar la espalda a las personas que necesitan nuestro apoyo ahora más que nunca. La tecnología móvil y las redes sociales nos han hecho llegar imágenes devastadoras de lugares que muchos/as de nosotros/as conocemos y a pesar de que no estamos allí físicamente, lo estamos espiritualmente. Nuestros corazones laten más fuerte que nunca y piden una solución inmediata a este problema, por eso hemos decidido iniciar este proyecto y asegurarnos de que plantamos nuestra pequeña semilla en una situación la cual requiere miles de semillas más. Por ello contamos también con vuestro apoyo, quizás no nos conozcas o no conozcas a las personas afectadas, pero sabemos que muchos de los que leáis esto estáis conmocionados al igual que nosotros y queréis ayudar de alguna forma. Vuestra aportación financiera nos ayudará a nosotros/as al igual que a vosotros/as y juntos lograremos proveer amor, cariño, dedicación y apoyo a los ciudadanos de Bata.

Queremos que esta estructura que estamos creando perdure y que sirva como ayuda a otros países. Una vez logrados nuestros objetivos en Bata, queremos crear un fondo de emergencia el cual se utilizará para facilitar las donaciones y el transporte de éstas en cualquier país del continente africano. HUMANITARIAN AID TO BATA
The people of Bata are devastated, following a series of catastrophic explosions on the 7th of March 2021.
The explosions led to the destruction of the surrounding infrastructure and the displacement of hundreds of people.
Many of the affected individuals fled to the rural areas under serious traumatisation and they are now returning to the places where they used to live.
The explosions left many individuals with wounds not only on their bodies but also in their minds. Such an event is not easy to forget as many are now suffering the consequences of losing their house, losing their family members and not having anywhere to go.
Equatorial Guinea is a small country in West Africa with a total population of 1.3 million people, Bata has a total of 250.000* habitants. The death toll of the explosion is 105 people and the total number of affected people is 615. These figures increase every day as there are many destroyed buildings that are not cleared yet.
There is uncertainty regarding the cause of the bombs, some sources point at government negligence and poor stocking conditions. Other sources believe that bush fires were the real cause of the explosions.
The consequences of the events in Bata are going to last for a long time and we do want to participate in the creation of an organized structure to help to handle the situation on both sides (Bata and in the diaspora).
There has been support from people in different parts of the globe including governments, companies, organisations and individuals. Each has contributed what they could to the cause. Those with more resources managed to ship their donation directly to Bata and these are now with the people in need.
As we mentioned above, the entities with the money and logistics to send their goods directly to Bata managed to provide support days after the events. However, there are a lot of initiatives from students, young people, organisations, and concerned citizens from western countries that are facing a number of difficulties.
There is a large diaspora population in Spain, and many people that come from different African countries are sympathising with the cause. Many of these individuals and organisations are stocking their donations at houses provided by volunteers and they are unable to find a free, secure, and transparent way to send their donations to Bata.
We are proposing the creation of a “Route”, which will be a structure through which we can guarantee the delivery of donations from Spain to Bata.
For this reason, we made a call to any individual or organisation, inside and outside the diaspora to collaborate voluntarily to the extent of the possibilities that each one can offer. We need your support to find a solution to all the problems we are facing and to accelerate the shipping of your donations to Bata.
We did identify the following difficulties that many are facing at the moment:
Logistics and the movements of donations within the country.
Shipping of donations to Bata.
Sending money.
Identification of affected people.
Poor distribution of donations.
Tariffs on exports.
The entities we have spoken to have solutions to all these problems, it only remains to come together and work in coordination to ensure that we are efficient in finding and implementing solutions.
We have identified the following initiatives that could help us organize ourselves more effectively.
Creation of a database.
-of associations
-of affected people.
-inventory.
-Of companies that can help with transport free of charge.
-Of collection points.
Synchronization between Bata and the diaspora.
A buying and shipping service for material in Bata (this avoids the need to have to send donations physically).
A company to help with the remittance of money.
Coordination of all the volunteers that are helping on an individual basis or through an association.
Setting up export points (either companies/organizations that do it for free or for a fee).
Identification of Crowdfundings (to be able to coordinate the remittance of capital in a coordinated way).
We believe that the diaspora is more than capable of doing this as a community and that we have enough people with the necessary experience to pull this off.
That is why we have decided to unite all the organisations and individuals that are involved in a whatsapp group. The aim of this group is to find solutions to all the problems we have mentioned above.
We provided below detailed information on what we have been doing so far and what our future goals are.
How has the diaspora acted?
The diaspora from different parts of the world has been mobilizing more than ever, because this is an event that has hurt us all and our only intention is to help in the most effective, fast and transparent way.
In Spain, there have been hundreds of initiatives by different people to raise funds and donations of all kinds and send them in some way to the people affected in Bata.
Likewise, shipping routes have been created, which have helped to send a small percentage of all the donations that have been obtained.
For its part, the Association of Ecuadorean-Guinean Students (ASEE) has made homes belonging to its members available to receive and store donations. Thanks to this initiative, they have managed to facilitate the shipment and storage of donations throughout Spain. They are currently continuing their campaign in social media and on university campuses.
For example,on Thursday, March 18, a collection point was set up at the Rey Juan Carlos University (Fuenlabrada campus). The ASEE association along with other groups within the university did ask for help from students to get more donations.
African Projects, has committed to creating a safe, transparent and long-term route for sending donations to Equatorial Guinea. Through social networks and using their directory of professionals B-Professional, they have been in charge of sensitizing the African/African descent community in Spain in order to mobilize all the resources at their disposal and help in this cause.
We have decided to join forces with other organisations in order to achieve our main objectives, which are:
-To raise awareness among the diaspora in different countries around the world.
-To make people understand the importance of union and cooperation in this humanitarian crisis.
-Facilitate collection points and shipping points, to ensure that donations reach their destination.
-Implement transparency in all our processes and at all our stages. We are a non-profit foundation, so all donations will go to finance the logistics (for collection and shipping) and the needs of the affected people.
-Ensure means for the shipment of donations, either by sea or air transport.
-Create an independent route to ensure that the donations reach the people who need them.
-Together with the Mujer Bantu Foundation help in the creation of a soup kitchen, which can provide breakfast, lunch, and dinner to the most affected people.
-To make this initiative a permanent one that will not only help Equatorial Guinea, but any other country in the African continent going through a humanitarian crisis.
What are the solutions we propose?
We need the support of everyone who reads about this initiative, we understand that if you are reading it is because someone you know or appreciate has decided to share it with you.
With your contribution, we will be able to find solutions to the problems previously mentioned and we will be able to make sure that the donations of thousands of people do not remain stagnant in the collection points.
We know that it is difficult to trust something unknown and we understand people who may have doubts about our cause and how we want to use the donations. That's why we are working hard to make sure the following is followed through:
Maximum transparency - By making use of the CrowdFunding platform we ensure that the use of donations is monitored by the platform itself. We are creating our own platform where we will be posting receipts for all the expenses we make. We will also use this platform to share updates on everything we are doing. We ensure maximum transparency to donors from the collection of donations to their arrival to the people most in need.
Organization and coordination - Together with ASEE we are preparing the logistics and organization necessary to ensure that everything agreed upon is fulfilled.
Responsible use of donations - We want to make sure that the resources reach the people in need, so we have decided to make use of technology to keep track of this. We will have a team of people in Spain and another in Bata who will be in charge of maintaining order and organization at the collection points and in the canteen which will serve hundreds of people daily. We are also creating an inventory that will include all the materials that will be used, including the food that will be cooked in the canteen. We will be conducting analyses to make sure that the services we propose will work efficiently and help a large percentage of the people in need.
What is the route we propose?
We have had a series of meetings with different associations and companies in Spain and Equatorial Guinea. After these meetings, we have realized that there are enough resources to create a route to send donations in an independent and low-cost way. Below we have included a diagram that explains the path through which the donations would pass from the donor in the diaspora to the person in need in Bata.
Donation route
Donations from different parts of the diaspora.
Individuals' homes and collection points in public places or near institutions have been made available. These points are published on social networks and the websites of ASEE and African Projects. Donors will be able to communicate directly with one of the two associations in case they have any problems or questions. We are collaborating with more associations that are providing this same service, the idea is to have a large number of collection points so that donors do not have to travel long distances.
Once the donations are received, they will be stored in the homes of our volunteers.
Shipping/Export Points
There are a number of companies that have been willing to help with the shipping of donations to Bata free of charge, these are companies that operate in the country and have the necessary logistics to get these donations to Bata free of charge.
Among them are Zazu Logistics, Imagesa, Martinez Hermanos, DHL.
We try to use this route since these companies have a preference in customs and many of them have their own warehouses in the ports.
If it is not possible to ship via these companies, we will consider paying for the shipment with the donations received. The standard shipping price for a container is 4,200 euros for 40 tons. Donations would take 4 weeks to reach their destination. We try to avoid this route as it involves customs controls which could delay the process.
The donations that are stored in the volunteers' house would be collected and brought to this meeting point by people who are willing to help. In case people do not have vehicles, the money from the donations would be used to rent a large capacity vehicle to collect all the donations in one day. After the collection, the donations would go to the export points.
We will communicate periodically with the people in charge of receiving the donations in these companies to make sure that they continue to provide these services.
Arrival at Bata
Once the donations are received at Bata, we will have a team of volunteers who will be in charge of transporting them to their warehouses. This work would be carried out by associations with which we collaborate.

Administration and distribution
Using technology, we maintain a stock control which is administered from Spain. The participating associations will send us a report containing their inventory, this report will be detailed and will reflect each of the received and available items.
The association IKABA has been in charge of creating a list of the people who have been affected. Thanks to their efficiency on the ground, they have managed to contact the people who were at the epicentre of the explosion and those who are in the vicinity. The association IKABA have information about the people who need help and what kind of help they need. This information allows us to distribute the donations in an efficient way, avoiding waste or abuse.
Continued support
We understand that the most devastating effects are yet to come, people who have become homeless and fled to rural areas are returning to the city and many with serious injuries. These injuries are both physical and psychological. Many of them do not have enough money to buy food or afford the cost of hospital care.
To supply these needs, we are cooperating with the Bantu Women's Foundation, and want to help create, manage and organize a soup kitchen.
The supplies for this soup kitchen will come directly from local supermarkets and vendors. By making use of Crowdfunding donations we will be able to make online purchases through Situcka and have these food and materials shipped directly to the bakery. Situcka has committed to make these shipments free of charge, African Projects would only have to make the purchase online (through its website which reflects the cost of the products) and Situcka would be responsible for making the shipments to the provided addresses .
The canteen will be open daily and will give prepared food to the most needy people. Together with the association [...] we will make sure that the people who appear on the lists are the ones who can come to this canteen, we will continue to make scans of the area to identify more people who have been affected but are not yet on this list.
Why is our initiative important?
The inhabitants of the affected areas are looking for clarity and order just as much as the donors are looking for the exact same things. That is why we have decided to create this initiative and make sure that this is achieved.
Why are we doing this?
This event has affected us greatly and we know that it has affected the people who are now without shelter, without food, and without their loved ones even more. We are in a privileged position compared to the affected people .
Still, we have decided not to turn our backs on the people who need our support now more than ever. Mobile technology and social media have brought us devastating images from places many of us know, and although we are not there physically, we are there spiritually.
Our hearts are beating stronger than ever and calling for an immediate solution to this problem, so we have decided to start this project and make sure that we plant our small seed in a situation that requires thousands more seeds. That is why we also count on your support, maybe you don't know us or the people affected, but we know that many of you reading this are as shocked as we are and want to help in some way.

We don't plan to stop here!
We want this structure to last and to serve as humanitarian support to other countries. Once we have achieved our goals in Bata, we want to create an emergency fund which will be used to facilitate donations and the transportation of donations to any country on the African continent.
