My time at Texas Christian University has been one I will remember for a lifetime. As I finish my junior year and start to look towards graduation I do not have any doubts or hesitations about my decision to attend this prestigious university. Through hard work and dedication, I am honored that I have been accepted into TCU's Political Science trip to India, where I would be studying human trafficking.
The Problem in India:
India is the epicenter of human trafficking and every four minutes, an innocent child is kidnapped, bound, stripped of her virginity, and of forced into a life of prostitution. There are roughly 150,000 children per year sold into slavery with India now having 2-3 million prostitutes.
What I will be doing:
Through this program, I will be introduced to the issue of transitional human trafficking through engagement with a variety of different Indian government agencies, Indian NGO’s, International organizations, and U.S. government agencies working to combat human trafficking in India. Throughout this two-week program, I will discuss sex trafficking and labor trafficking, and critically examine how factors such as globalization, consumerism, and misogyny perpetuate a system that exploits people for profit.
How you can help:
As most of you are aware, my family has undergone a great deal of financial hardships these past few years. Any donation amount would be greatly appreciated, allowing me to be able to experience a trip of a lifetime. My goal of $9,000 will cover the cost of TCU’s tuition, program fee, airfare, vaccines, and meals.
Any support that you would be able to offer to lift this financial burden on my family would be greatly appreciated.
