Do you remember in your younger years when you had a certain local “safe haven” hang out spot you’d always go to with your friends and even just yourself a lot of the times?  The place where you went whether if it was just for a quick stop to get a drink and small bite to eat or a little break from the day so you could master out your own visions while facing the unpredictable’s of the day to day life…

My Name is Turquoise Chanel Washington, and I am a 30 year old Bay Area Native with an unwavering passion for empowering the youth and improving the wellness of our communities that had been rooted within my heart and soul since I first went to summer camp at age 11 and decided I wanted to be one of the camp leads/staff when I got old enough.  Since then my passion for outreach, working with the youth and community organization has only grown and I am finally taking charge and accomplishing my life purpose goal and taking the steps needed to turn it into my forever career that I am passionate about.

Concerns for obesity and diabetes (type 1 and type 2) along with other chronic illnesses have been taken too lightly in my community when it’s a widespread health [silent] epidemic, especially in the underserved communities and it is affecting the way our future is forming.  This is the hindrance in community growth that I am aiming to revolutionize.

Growing up watching my pop pop (dad’s side) prick his finger or injecting his insulin, I never understood how that plus his daily morning routine getting McDonalds hotcakes with sausage and a coffee did not mix if one was concerned for health wellness.  I recently lost my pop pop to his battle with type 2 diabetes during his routine dialysis visit, but before his death he had suffered from all the health complications that a type 2 insulin dependent diabetic is warned about.  I am currently watching my father walk down the same path, not insulin dependent however I fear that it could get there.  My father being the man he is, he is set in his ways and slowly (very slowly) getting with the health trends and eating LESS junk food (any food he is advised not to eat).  Of course I do my consistent nagging and try to get him to hop on the “back to the basics” wagon and juice or smoothie it up daily.

I also worry daily about my mother who is a breast cancer survivor over 10 years strong, who now has a weakened immune system due to the chemotherapy and radiation she underwent (she is also definitely a bubble child, and I’m not too far behind her ^_^), and though she is a lot better with what she eats and drinks, she is SO SO busy all the time that I am sure she has poor choices in what she eats and drinks in those busy moments.  But my family story isn’t unique.  The same story goes for so many others in my neighborhood and community; health conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, kidney failure, heart disease and cancer.  Which all seem to be “accepted” by my community as part of the “natural” aging process.  I take my personal worries and can’t help but feel the concerns for those who have the unfortunate path destined for them. Placing me in a position to spread health awareness and bring freshness.  This leads me to this mission that I am excited to present….

I would like to introduce Pressed For Time™, an all natural Smoothie & Juice company entirely driven to improve the basic wellness needs of the community.  Pressed For Time™ was founded in September of 2015 but the initial idea to open a community based business had been in the planning stage since I began my alternative medicine research for type 2 diabetes in 2012.  We have set a goal date to be signing our lease agreement by summer of 2017.   At this time we are designing peer based programs and workshops that will be accessible to the [youth and] communities to develop sustainable, community-wide prevention methods for obesity, diabetes and all other chronic illnesses, along with youth empowerment program(s) that will touch on topics that some organizations fail to address.  Eventually we will be looking for an open lot that is approved to be converted into an organic produce garden that will be used to offer community service and volunteer hours to at risk youth.  It will also bring fresh produce for the entire community.  We have started consulting with people within the community about topics and matters that they would like to see implemented through peer based programs that are highly essential for the growth of a community.

Pressed For Time™ is one of the first community geared, all natural juice & smoothie shop to be brought to East Oakland, CA with the personal agenda to improve living standards.  Ultimately, the goal is to equip my community with the best tools for illness prevention and wellness maintenance, to look forward to a better future and redesign our fate.   Pressed For Time™ is dedicated to bringing freshness to the underserved areas of East Oakland, CA and working alongside with other wellness and nutrition programs in Oakland and surrounding cities.

My business partner (Cindimia Irvin a.k.a Mia) and I have been raising money to acquire funds for the necessary permits, licenses, insurance, start-up inventory, branding (logo), professional consulting and most importantly the loan we will be applying for to purchase the  most vital investment in this journey, the actual store front lease.  We will need to match 15% of the loan amount for collateral to the loan office.  Which is why we set out over-all goal at $15,000.00;  We are planning offline fund raising with community meet and greets in the near future, and have started a GoFundMe campaign April 22, 2016 with the goal of raising $9,000.00 out of the set over-all goal amount; so far we have raised $2,325.00 thru our GoFundMe campaign.  With those donations we were able to hire a design and brand consulting firm to help with designing Pressed For Time’s™  logo.  Unfortunately the GoFundMe campaign has slowed down significantly and Pressed For Time™ hasn’t received enough donations to complete  the goals that will be used for the down payment of the loan we are seeking to get Pressed For Time™ up and running.

We hope that you are able to join us in reaching our funding goal, we are asking for donations in any amount to help us reach our over-all goal of $15,000.00. Pressed For Time™ can only achieve its goals with the assistance of generous donations from people who want to help make a difference. Without these donations, serving those in our area will not be possible. Since Pressed For Time™ also relies on the generosity of individuals such as yourself, we write to ask you to consider a donation to our cause as well as share with your family, friends and fans.

We greatly appreciate you taking the time to read our campaign, and we hope you want to learn more.

PEACE!
