UPDATE 9/23/23 From Chloe:
Sweet pea left us this morning. Part of the decision making process with the surgery was that there was a 15% chance of her spinal cord being so damaged that it would continue to degenerate in either or both directions and if it headed upwards towards her lungs and head it would be fatal and very painful. We chose not to go forward for a number of reasons; it was a 50/50 chance in the best of cases but this chance of degeneration was a factor as well as the fact that her already bad front arms wouldn’t be able to support the rehab of her back legs. We had planned to bring her home and have her put to sleep surrounded by loved ones in the comfort of home, but in the morning as we got ready to come get her we were told that she did indeed have that degeneration happening rapidly towards her lungs and head. On one hand that meant we were not able to bring her home but on the other it meant we were given the grace to know without a doubt we made the right and only choice for her. We got to hold her and sit under an oak and a ginko tree while she passed away peacefully and feeling so loved.
The hospital bills totaled $6000
Medications cost $200
Cremation is $350
The hotel room over night while we waited to find out was $200
Hello friends and loved ones
The docs say it’s time for Peanut to leave us. She’s in too much pain and the surgery doesn’t seem viable. Jesse and Chloe will be bringer her home to Bolinas and finding a vet to help her leave while at home surrounded by love. We’re going to keep the fund open as there is still a significant bill for the MRI and other hospital charges as well as the end of life care itself. Thank you for your contributions and your support. My heart is so heavy. If you’re lucky enough to see her before she leaves please give her a big hug and kiss from me.
OLD: If you know me or Jesse or Chloe you definitely know Sweet Pea. Our little girl has what the vet thinks is a slipped disc in her back that’s paralyzed her back legs. There is a very short window in which a surgery can be done, Jesse and Chloe are on their way to UC Davis as I type this to meet with their neurologist. Please help us get our girl the surgery she needs tonight. Thank you, we love you.
