I am running the Chicago Marathon on October 9, 2016 for the charity SurvivorVision. SurvivorVision was founded by my dear colleague and two-time childhood cancer survivor/"thriver" Julia Stepenske.

Many of us know or have heard emotional stories about children who have battled cancer, but have you ever thought about what happens after the battle? You may be surprised to learn that:

 * 14,000 children under the age of 14 are diagnosed with cancer each year;

* 1 in every 1,000 persons is a childhood cancer survivor;

* 1 in every 640 young adults is a survivor of pediatric cancer.

Thanks to amazing strides in medical research, more and more childhood survivors are added to the ranks of “CURED” each year. While survivors of pediatric cancer are forever grateful for a second chance at life, living as a survivor often comes with a price:

* 3 out of 5 childhood cancer survivors will have at least one chronic health condition after cancer treatment;

* 2 out of 5 pediatric cancer survivors will have at least one severe, disabling or life threatening condition after treatment - an 80% increase over their healthy siblings.

SurvivorVision® was founded to help these survivors find their new “normal” and help them Thrive after cancer! 

In order to support their life-changing programs for childhood cancer survivors, they rely solely on fundraising and donations from supporters like you. Operations are managed on a volunteer basis, so less than 2% of donations go to operational expenses. Over 98% of donated funds directly support SurvivorVision programs. SurvivorVision is not-for-profit 501 (c) (3) charitable foundation and donations are tax-deductible.
