Vesper has a lump that's suspicious for cancer and he will need to have the lump removed and sent for pathology at a minimum, with the possibility of additional diagnostics and treatment once we know more. A fine needle aspiration (cell sample) was done, with inconclusive results - this procedure + exam and pre-op bloodwork used the majority of our initial funding, so our goal remains at $2,000.
This lump is particularly suspicious because of its behavior and location. It first appeared roughly a year ago, went away before the scheduled biopsy, and then recurred recently in the same spot. It has also had a few concerning changes in size. Despite an inconclusive fine needle aspiration, his vet is concerned enough about the recurrence and size changes that surgery and pathology are his best option.
*Anything raised over what is needed for his care will go to flood relief orgs focused on caring for and reuniting animals displaced by the recent Hill Country floods.
