Supporting My Son’s Mental Health Care.

No parent expects to fight for their child’s mental health at twelve years old but that is where I am today.

My name is Marlissa. I am a 43 year old single mother of four, and I am reaching out because my youngest son urgently needs mental health care that I cannot provide on my own.

My 12 year old son has been diagnosed with Bipolar II Disorder. Hearing those words changed everything. As a mother, you prepare for scraped knees, school worries, and growing pains things you can soothe with reassurance and love. But bipolar disorder is different. It is complex, unpredictable, and overwhelming, and it requires professional care, structure, and consistency far beyond what love alone can give.

My son needs therapy, medical supervision, and a stable educational environment designed for children facing serious mental health challenges. Without these supports, his condition can worsen not because he lacks potential, but because the resources required to help him are financially out of reach.

Several years ago, I left home with the hope of building a better future for all my children. My goal was always to reunite us and give them safety, stability, and opportunity. Unfortunately, life took an unexpected turn. The relatives who were caring for my son could no longer manage his increasing needs, and he was placed in the care of his 18 year old sister.

She loves her brother deeply, but she is still at the very beginning of her own life. Managing the daily emotional challenges of a child with bipolar disorder without professional support is an impossible responsibility for someone so young. My eldest daughter helps when she can, but the truth is difficult to face: the level of care my son needs is more than our family can currently afford.

What keeps me awake at night is this reality:

Without consistent therapy, proper medication, and a structured school environment, my son is at risk of falling through the cracks during one of the most critical periods of his development.

I cannot allow that to happen.

This is why I created this GoFundMe.

I am humbly seeking to raise $15,000 USD before the end of the year to secure essential mental health care and educational support for my son. This is not about comfort or extras it is about stability, safety, and giving my child a fair chance to heal and grow.

Your support will help provide:

  • Consistent, specialized therapy for bipolar disorder
  • Psychiatric evaluations and ongoing mental health monitoring
  • Necessary medication to help stabilize his moods
  • Enrollment in a specialized school where he can learn in a safe, supportive environment

Reaching this goal before the new year is critical. It would allow my son to begin the next school term with the support system he desperately needs one that can help him rebuild confidence, manage his condition, and move forward with hope.

Every contribution, no matter the amount, brings us closer to that goal.

When you donate, you are not just giving money.
You are giving a child stability during a fragile moment, relief to a family doing its best, and hope for a healthier future.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for taking the time to read our story, for sharing it, and for standing with us. Your kindness means more than words can express and it truly has the power to change my son’s life.
