Supporting Unity Prep's Class of 2020

Unity Preparatory Charter School of Brooklyn (Unity) started in 2013 with a group of sixth graders. Our mission was (and still is) to empower students as scholars and citizens so they may lead fulfilling academic, personal, and professional lives.
Until this March, our plan to fulfill this mission was working as we hoped. Our senior class was making excellent progress toward graduation from high school. They were well-poised to transition to college and career:
--- 100% earned admission to more than one college
--- 90% completed the FAFSA (compared to 60-61% of students nationwide in recent years)
--- Over 80% passed all their Regents test requirements
--- Over 90% were on track to earn sufficient credits to graduate on time
Unfortunately, the Covid-19 pandemic has directly and tragically affected many of the families we serve:
--- Parents have lost jobs
--- Family members have become sick or passed on
--- Students, in some cases, have become essential workers and now are the breadwinners in their homes
Rather than focusing on college, our seniors are now exclusively focused on their families’ most immediate needs.
These circumstances have greatly hindered our families' abilities to fully support our students in transitioning to college. On behalf of our families, we request your help to address these challenges. To fully meet our students’ college-related needs we need to raise between $25,000 and $30,000. Please consider making a donation to cover a specific cost listed below:
--- Pay for college enrollment deposits for students ($150)
--- Pay for a student’s transportation to/from college for a semester ($200)
--- Provide "dorm kits" (bedding, storage bins, cork boards, school supplies, etc.) for our students who are going away to college ($250)
--- Purchase a laptop for students who may not have access to technology they can bring to campus ($650)
We aspire to the community school model, in which a school and the community it serves band together to support young people. Please join us in our efforts by donating whatever you can to support our inaugural graduating class of students.
