Supporting Sarah through Terminal Cancer
In October 2022 our beautiful friend Sarah was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer – Malignant Pigmented Villonodular Synovitis (PVNS) which is a form of Sarcoma. To put into perspective the rarity of this cancerous disease, it is said that there are fewer than 30 cases reported and documented worldwide.
Upon diagnosis, Sarah learned that the cancer was in her hip and underwent a course of radiation and surgery (2023) to remove the tumour, subsequently losing her right femur during surgery affecting her mobility. Sarah had intensive rehabilitation afterwards. In Early 2024, Sarah was advised by her medical team that the cancer had returned this time on her spine and underwent further surgery. By the end of 2025, doctors informed her that even after a recent course of radiation treatment the cancer had returned and will continue to grow, this time in her hip and pelvis and the best course of action to cure was to undergo a hind quarter amputation of her right leg.
After spending time in St Vincents (Melbourne) and Grace McKellar Centre (Geelong), Sarah got to go home before Christmas but it wasn’t long into the new year when she was admitted back into St Vincents. Sarah and Alex were informed that her cancer had returned, this time in her pelvis and lungs and sadly her diagnosis is now terminal.
Sarah has started further treatment, immunotherapy, at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre to try and help slow the progression of this awful cancer but unfortunately options are now limited. Sarah and Alex have been told that this may give them time through to later this year until Sarah’s health deteriorates which is truly heartbreaking.
Sarah is a devoted mother to 5-year-old Frankie, a loving wife to Alex, and a cherished sister and friend. Whether she’s in her former home of North East Victoria or her current community on the Bellarine Peninsula, Sarah has a rare gift for making everyone feel seen. She is truly as beautiful inside as she is out; her calm, genuine nature and bubbly spirit leave you feeling lighter and warmer just by being in her company.
Despite the immense physical and emotional toll since Sarah’s initial diagnosis when Frankie was just 2 years old, she has been courageous, positive and hopeful of more time with her family. Sarah is currently in constant and unimaginable pain which has continued to affect her mobility.
We are reaching out to our communities to ask to please contribute whatever you can big or small to help make this time that little bit easier for this beautiful family.
Money raised will go to expenses related to living, medical, support services, and anything the family may need now or in the future.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read and donate, we know your support and kind comments will mean the world to Sarah and Alex.
