After 400 days in the NICU, we are finally seeing the light at the end of a very long road.
Savannah and Chris have a month ahead that is both incredibly exciting and overwhelming in the best way. The doctors are talking about discharge for Colsen, something we’ve all prayed so hard for. But instead of telling him he’s “going home,” we’ve been saying something a little more special… Colsen is going to the zoo.
And he is so close.
Colsen has been doing amazing, he’s been on a home vent and requiring little to no oxygen for the past couple of weeks. He’s already on the settings they want him on when he goes home, and we couldn’t be more proud of how far he’s come. He has just a few sedation weans left, and then Colsy K gets his trip to the zoo.
At the same time, Savannah and Chris just welcomed their second baby boy, Everen, into the world. After everything they’ve been through, they are finally on the brink of having both of their boys under one roof, something that once felt so far away.
With all of this joy also comes a lot of pressure and stress that we would love to help ease for them.
After being away from home for over a year, they are starting from scratch in many ways. We’re hoping to raise money to help stock their home with everyday necessities, assist with bills as they transition back, cover any medical supplies Colsen may need, and allow Chris the ability to take time off work so he can fully be present for this long-awaited chapter as a family of four.
Because Colsen is vent-dependent, he requires two caregivers for appointments and outings. Chris will remain on FMLA, and with their home being an hour and a half from the grad clinic, with frequent appointments ahead, we want to help relieve any financial burden so they can focus on what truly matters: being together.
This past year has been the hardest of their lives, and they have faced it with strength, love, and unwavering faith. We are endlessly grateful for every prayer, every message, and every bit of support you’ve given them along the way.
Now, it’s time to celebrate this miracle.
Thank you for loving them, supporting them, and sharing this with others. We cannot wait for the day we get to say… Colsen is HOME.
