On July 20, 2015 the US was once again the target of a terrorist attack. More specifically, our military, who were attacked by radical Islamic terrorists. The next day, Rob Medley became a hero to many. He was not just an “armchair warrior” he took action. He didn't just talk, he actually did something about it! Rob is a veteran whom I deeply respect.
For the next 4 weeks Rob stood guard at the local Asheville, NC military recruiting center. He was there when they opened, and he was there until they closed. Day after day, Rob experienced kind people who would stop by to offer him encouragement, gratitude, refreshments or whatever they thought he might need. There were also horrible people who would drive by and yell horrible things at him. There were people who wanted him gone, but Rob didn't back down.
I learned a lot about Rob during his time there. I stopped in a couple of times to take him a drink but soon became friends with this man. He has such a passion to do the right thing. He has a passion for our military families and for our law enforcement families. Rob’s dream is to have a non-profit foundation called The Guardians Group. It will fund protection and support for our law enforcement and military members and their families.
However, for all the good that Rob was doing there were sinister actions going on behind the scenes. His house was vandalized multiple times. His brake lines were cut on his truck causing him to wreck into his neighbor’s yard. His battery cables were cut and had to be replaced, his son’s tire was flattened and finally his tag was stolen during the night. He didn't realize this and was pulled over and ticketed for not having a tag. That ticket was not cheap! It was $200, even after he explained what had happened. Getting a new tag is also another expense. The ticket and repairs ended up costing him a good bit. Lets help the guy out.
