Pastor Frankie Gallo has been in ministry for 25 years now in the Central Florida area.  He’s served in Lake county for almost 12 years at Matthew’s Hope, in Winter Garden, Florida.  Over those years, he has ministered to countless homeless and needy people, right in our very own community; possibly some that you have driven by or seen many times during your daily commute.  Whether it is feeding or providing living necessities to the less fortunate, or counseling those with addictions and helping them get back on their feet again, Pastor Frankie has been there, day and night.  It’s not uncommon for him to receive calls at 2, 3, and 4 in the morning on his personal line from those in need and in crisis; and he faithfully answers every single call, no matter how exhausted he may be.  He has tirelessly served those that are at their very lowest, and he does it with a joyful heart, because he truly cares for people.  For 20 plus years, Frankie has been going out to the woods, and to the homeless tent communities, seeing to the needs of those he calls, his “homeless homies,” often times spending his holidays and days off ministering to them, and helping them find jobs, homes and providing the mental, emotional, physical needs and life skills they require to live happy and healthy lifestyles.  I have personally witnessed these things over the 5 years I have known this incredible man of God. Not only has he given his time 100 percent to this ministry, but he has also given financially, for many years taking no salary at all to support himself. And this is Frankie; giving and giving and working constantly for the sake of others and the sake of Christ, never asking or taking anything for himself, because God has called him to serve those that others often times would shun, and run from.

In his 12 years at Matthew’s hope he has taken on much of the ministry’s work.  Some of his responsibilities include: managing the Matthew’s Hope facilities(all 17 of them!), overseeing 14 transitional houses and their properties, maintaining the 5 ministry vehicles, running the food pantry, the Hope Chest workshop, the outreach program, and the administration office.  He also teaches weekly bible and life skills classes for children and adults, on top of doing one on one individual counseling.  He provides free notary services for the homeless, has officiated more weddings than he can count, and many funerals as well, all at no charge.  And this doesn’t even cover all that Frankie does!

2 years ago he was diagnosed with a rare disorder of the esophagus called Achalasia, which impairs the ability of the body to push food down towards the stomach, resulting in major weight loss and chest pain, amongst many other unpleasant and painful side effects. He is unable to hold down any solid foods, and sometimes, not even liquids.  He’s been living off of protein shakes, which he sometimes has to drink many of, just to try to keep some of the nutrients in his body.  

Not only is this disorder painful and inconvenient, but it has put a MAJOR financial strain on Frankie, who already was just getting by on his modest pastor’s salary.  He has spent countless thousands of dollars on medical insurance, co-pays for prescriptions, hospital stays, and surgeries due to this illness.  This year he underwent a major surgery, a left thoracotomy, as a result of the Achalasia. Doctors had to take out two of his ribs for the surgery, and sadly, it was unsuccessful. He was out of work for several weeks, trying to recover, but went back to work even before the doctors said he should.  He’s lost almost 100 pounds in the past two years and dealt with all the mental and physical repercussions of a major physical adjustment like this.  

I am asking all of you to prayerfully and thoughtfully consider making a donation this holiday season to get Frankie the much needed financial and medical help he needs to continue in his ministry that has transformed so many of our lives here in this community.  His needs include finances for medical expenses, new dentures, vehicle repairs (Frankie says the duct tape and gorilla glue just aren’t cutting it anymore!), new eyeglasses, dental work on a painful, abscessed tooth, and for his protein shakes, which are insanely expensive!  Due to all the medical expenses, it has become impossible for Frankie to keep up and he has fallen way behind on many of his major bills. As a result, his health and wellness is suffering even more. 

We have all struggled in 2020, but I am praying that those of you who are able, and feel led to, will consider sowing into Frankie’s life and ministry.  Together, we can make an enormous difference in this man’s life, who has changed and saved the lives of so many.  I am convinced that there is not another person on earth that is more deserving of our support, and generosity and I have full confidence that every cent we raise for him will go towards continuing his ministry and many works of service for those in
need.
