The most powerful thing is the imprint that one life can leave upon another.  Such a statement is the primary reason why I decided to study organizational dynamics.  My  life changing experience came by my Mother, a breast cancer survivor and survivor of the foster care system. My first encounter with "genuine community" was when my mother enrolled as a foster parent. As an eight-year-old child, my interactions with other children from such high-risk backgrounds developed a sensitivity to understand how traumatic events impact people's lives,  interactions, and decision-making.

As the late Peter Gomes would state, "Do not be defined by your circumstances, but define them."

My name is Joshua Bush and I am a human relations advocate, intrapersonal advisor, and an aspiring organizational dynamics professional.

I have recently been granted the opportunity to study at the University of Pennsylvania this summer in their Organizational Dynamics Exchange program.

Organizational Dynamics Exchange Program

I have this great opportunity solely because of the contributions of a "genuine community," and as a result wholeheartedly believe in the transformational imprint that one life can leave on another.

While attending Morgan State University, I developed and implemented a self-improvement tool titled, "Men of Substance"TM for underrepresented students.  Because of the program, which was recognized by Morgan State’s administration, the students were able to grow in three primary areas: academic development, self-leadership, and community leadership practices.  Several of them increased their Grade Point Averages by more than 50 percent.

Experience

Since 2010, I have dedicated over 5 years to coaching and advising high-risk youth and students between the ages of 11-25 through the BEM Foundation. Having endured homelessness, neglect, poverty and a pool of other obstacles, I have dedicated the last five years toward designing, developing and supporting program initiatives that seek to recognize, restore, organize,  empower and implement progressive change among marginalized communities. The "Social Impact System" is designed to ignite and push the human spirit forward, while fueling students to live their dreams.

More about my work and background

What & Why

Organizational dynamics is the study of people in a large company or an organization. It seeks to understand the collective behavior and their reaction to each other within an organization, which can be made to work more effectively. I believe this program will hone my ability to recognize and resolve how trauma unconsciously plays out within organizational and social life.

Purpose

I am preparing to enroll in the Masters of Science in Organizational Dynamics, concentrating in Executive Coaching and Organizational Project Leadership Studies at:

THE UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA

In order to matriculate, I must complete a scholar-practitioner exchange program. After graduating from University Pennsylvania, I intend to work with the private and public sector institutions on managing the human element of business. My hope is to create buy-in among senior-level stakeholders to better understand and leverage the underlying dynamics and people existing within organizational cultures.

Expenses

Since my freshman year of undergraduate studies, I have financed my college through part-time jobs, work-study and student loans. Because of this, I have graduated with a sizeable debt and funded my current studies at Georgetown University. ln the process, I have depleted all of my savings and resources with little left for graduate study.

The total cost of attendance is $17,200 ($6,500 per class) and they begin May 23, 2016. As this is an exchange program, I will be paying regular tuition on top of the additional expenses that come with taking part in this program for one semester. This includes housing, health insurance, meals, local transport, textbooks, and miscellaneous fees. The financial goal for this page will cover these fees.

I have successfully secured my residence for the duration of the summer semester in Philadelphia, PA, but I am in desperate need for assistance to defray the tuition cost.
