Hi everyone, this is Melody. I’m writing from my heart to share what’s been happening in our world—and to open a space for support if you feel called.
On April 28th, my partner Erick was in a serious mountain biking accident. He suffered a burst fracture in his spine (T1), a shoulder broken in three places, and eight fractured ribs. He’s already undergone emergency spinal surgery (a four-level fusion), and the recovery ahead will be long and intense—expected to take at four to six months, with physical therapy, follow-up scans, and a lot of healing time at home.
How This Impacts Our Family
Erick has been a co-provider in our household and a loving, steady presence for me and my two children. With him out of work and healing, I’ll be carrying a great deal—financially, emotionally, and physically. Between caretaking, keeping our home running, and parenting two kids in sports with a very full schedule, I’m feeling stretched thin.
This fundraiser is not only about helping with Erick’s medical costs—it’s also about helping our family stay steady while we navigate this together.
Your support can help with:
• Mortgage and utilities so we can stay rooted in our home
• Erick’s personal bills like his phone, car, groceries, and basic living expenses
• Medical and rehabilitation costs, including therapy, follow-ups, and equipment
• In-home support, such as house cleaning, yard work, and caretaking help
• Space for me to be present with Erick in these early weeks without needing to take on extra work hours
This Isn’t About Obligation—It’s About Opportunity
We’re not asking from a place of lack or guilt. We’re opening the door to support because we know healing happens best when it’s shared. Erick and I both believe we are held, safe, and connected—and your support, in any form, becomes part of that remembering.
Our Goal
We’ve set a goal of $44,000 to cover the months ahead. This includes replacing Erick’s income so we can meet our family’s basic needs, as well as covering medical costs and in-home support services that insurance won’t touch.
