Windansea. Life. Death. Resurrection
Some of the best San Diego surf photos ever assembled in one place are part of our new book. Michael Cassidy is putting the finishing touches on the design. From there, it goes to layout and then to the printer. What a long, awesome trip it's been. Thank you for your financial and spiritual support. We can still use both. Whatever you can do is greatly appreciated. Thanks. Love. Blessings, Chris

Thanks, love, blessings,

New photos are arriving from legendary Lensmen: Jeff Divine, Jon Foster, and Tom Keck. This never-before-told story is about more than a single surf spot; it is about the pulse that beats in the heart of us all--Life. Death and Resurrection we all face. Told by the chorus of voices from Windansea's first surfer, Woody Brown, to the dying words of Chris O'Rourke, this epic tale cuts to the heart of surfers and. nonsurfers alike. All funds gathered will be used for this project.
The Kumeyaay Tribe occupied the region now known as La Jolla for thousands of years. They were ocean-going people fishing and perhaps surfing in their reed canoes. The next wave of surfers to call Windansea home were led by a glider pilot from the East, Woody "Spider" Brown. Woody created a bridge for surfing legends like Endless Summer star Mike Hynson and the original Mister Pipeline, Butch Van Artsdalen. By the mid-1970s, Chris O'Rourke and Brew Briggs were in their mid-teens, close friends, and rising stars in the surfing world. They were poised for international fame when providence dealt an unexpected hand. Briggs quit surfing in response to his turning to the Lord, and O'Rourke was diagnosed with a cancer that would eventually take his life. Thankfully, that is not the end of the story.
Chris Ahrens has authored four popular books of surf stories. His work has appeared in most American surfing publications, including Surfer, Surfing, and The Surfer's Journal, where he once wrote a 36-page article on Windansea featuring Chris O'Rourke and Brew Briggs. As a close friend of O'Rourke's, Ahrens co-founded "The Friends of Chris O'Rourke," an organization working to help pay his bills. Before Chris's death in 1981, Ahrens and O'Rourke collaborated on a screenplay of O'Rourke's life.
All donations from this GoFundMe campaign will be used to keep me working exclusively on this story, printing, editing, layout, marketing and other expenses. If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this link with everyone in your network. Until then, I will keep you updated on our progress.
A donation of any amount assures the donor a signed, limited edition hardcover book once it rolls off the presses in the early summer of 2024.
A portion of profits from this book will benefit nonprofits: Natural High and the Boys 2 Men Mentoring Network.
