Personal Story:
Charles-Henri is a beloved father, grandfather, and friend known for his kindness and generosity. Throughout his life, he has always been there for others, offering support and a helping hand whenever needed. His sense of humor and unwavering optimism have touched many lives.
For a few years, Charles-Henri had been experiencing what was believed to be severe labyrinthitis. He suffered from impaired gait and balance, and over the last year, these symptoms became debilitating. Progressive muscle weakness appeared in both legs, making it clear that something more serious was at play.
After numerous tests and consultations, Charles-Henri was diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis). This diagnosis has brought significant changes and challenges. As ALS progresses, more symptoms emerge daily. Charles-Henri has struggled with walking and performing usual daily activities, tripping and falling, and experiencing weakness in his legs, feet, and ankles. His hands have become weak and clumsy, often causing him to drop things. Muscle cramps and twitching (fasciculations) in his legs, arms, and shoulders add to his discomfort. The situation has now become alarming due to his total loss of mobility and the future impairments to come.
Charles-Henri has an only son who lives with his family a continent away. While his son, daughter-in-law, grandchildren, and a best friend provide distant support, the need for constant assistance has become an absolute necessity and a significant challenge.
The progression of ALS has been both physically and emotionally demanding, requiring various treatments and therapies to manage symptoms and maintain his quality of life. A new living place adapted to his needs has become essential, as has a full-time caregiver to provide constant assistance with daily tasks and activities. Physiotherapy, support for nutrition and feeding, and emotional support are also becoming necessary.
Despite these hardships, Charles-Henri remains hopeful and resilient. His positive outlook and determination to fight ALS inspire everyone around him. However, the financial burden of medical expenses, treatments, a new adapted home, and the costs associated with a full-time caregiver is overwhelming.
Charles-Henri’s strength and courage are a testament to his character. By supporting this campaign, you are helping a remarkable man continue to fight this battle with dignity and hope.
